Carol Ann Mappin

Carol Mappin passed away on December 10th, 2023 in the comfort of her home surrounded by her beloved family. Carol was born in Caldwell, Idaho in 1943 to Raechal and Steve Stevenson. She was raised with her 2 sisters (Sharon and Virginia) in Caldwell and was a proud graduate of Caldwell High School in 1961. She remained very active with her graduating class and it brought her much joy as she helped plan many class reunions. In her youth, Carol took jobs around the country. On one such job in Houston, she was swept away by a handsome, dashing and charming man, Donald Mappin, whom she later married in 1967. They welcomed their son, Don James Mappin in 1970. Carol devoted herself to her son and the role of homemaker. Carol's adventurous spirit led her to explore the world alongside her husband, serving her country in the Merchant Marines. They traveled extensively, visiting countries around the Mediterranean Sea, Central America, Singapore, Vietnam, Russia, Mexico, and sailing across the International Dateline on more than one occasion. She was particularly proud of her Vietnam Service Bar, awarded to her for active service during the Vietnam War. Carol was a dedicated and active member of her community throughout her life. From her early involvement in the Girl Scouts and Jobs Daughters to her volunteer work with her son’s activities, she demonstrated a commitment to making a positive impact on those around her. She never hesitated to share her talents and sense of humor to make someone smile. She continued her community service later in life by volunteering at the West Jordan Senior Center for the last 20 years. An avid seamstress, Carol's talent for crafting beautiful handmade quilts was a testament to her generosity. She crafted quilts for friends, family and charity organizations, including memory quilts for those who had lost loved ones. Her warm and giving spirit touched the lives of many. Carol’s grandchildren, Alloryn and Evan Mappin, were the light of her life. They were fortunate to have her as a constant presence in their lives, and they cherished their time together. Carol took great pride in Alloryn's kindness and dedication and she delighted in listening to Evan play his trombone for her. Carol was preceded in death by her parents, sister Sharon Lindsay, and her husband, Donald Herbert Mappin. She is survived by her son, Don, daughter-in-law, Cami, her cherished grandchildren, Alloryn and Evan, her sister Virginia and nieces and nephews. Her memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made in Carol's honor to the West Jordan Senior Center at https://salt-lake-county-aging-adult-services.square.site/ It was Carol’s request to be buried at Caldwell, Idaho; a private memorial service will be held for the family at this time.
