We were lucky to go to Shell's dinner before he died. I got to spend about an hour with him. When I told him who I was he got really excited to see me. I felt so special by his response. I told him I would love to hear some war stories. He replied, everyone wants war stories. I would rather tell you about my happiest memory from my entire life. My response was I would love that. He proceeded to tell me about a fishing trip with Marie. Jessica has the detailed story. I was so blessed to see how excited he got while telling me the story. In the middle of the story he said that they had caught a decent size fish and he looked over at Marie and she was lit up. She had the happiest, most loving look on her face, as she met eyes with him. He said out of everything in his entire life, that moment was his all-time happiest. That moment seeing the love of his life that happy meant more than anything to him. He carried that memory the rest of his life and often reminisced about it. I truly wish all of Shell's loved ones could have seen Shell while he was telling this story. I have never seen him so happy and excited to say anything. His love for Marie ran so much deeper than I was aware of. I knew he truly loved her but this was beyond that. She was his world. I'm happy he is reunited with her. I will always feel like family to you all. I love you all. Shell, I love you. You will be missed.
