Dana and Gretchen I am heartbroken to learn of your Mothers passing. I was so happy to have finally met her after so many years and getting her and my Mom back together for a visit. I am sorry to hear of the passing of my cousin Marilyn. She was a such a joyful person and had many stories of her adventures thru life that were interesting to me when I was growing up. She was instrumental in getting our large and widespread family together by reunions and her publishing our family tree. The last time I saw Marilyn was at my father Onni Aijala,s 100th birthday celebration at my sister Lilly,s house in Boca Raton in 2002, Marilyn along with many cousins and family members traveled for this occasion. I'm one of Marilyn's relatives living in Finland. I remember her visiting Finland few times when I was a kid. And once (when I was six years old) we also visited US. At that time Marilyn and Ronald were living NH. In 2012 I visited Marilyn & Ron in Utah with my husband Ville. Recently we have been in contact via e-mails that she wrote frequently that were always nice to receive and reply telling greetings from Finland, Kajaani. Marilyn also had amazing attitude towards life. I sent her a book I have written. In Finnish. And she was aiming to read it - in the age of 90 .
It was amazing how close she felt even though the physical distance is rather long. <3 Therefore I, and as we discussed also other Finnish relatives, miss her a lot.
Marilyn and Ron were a very important part of the 20th ward when they lived in Salt Lake. Ron was a counselor to my husband Stan Benfell and at another point Marilyn was the Relief Society president. They served so well and faithfully and were such good friends that they have always had a special place in our hearts. We gave many dinners together and Marilyn and I even tap danced together in a ward talent show! (I am not sure how talented we were!) we missed them when they left. I miss them now! Rest In Peace, dear Marilyn.
