Catherine Itri Lloyd

In the early hours of May 13, 2025, Catherine Itri Lloyd died as a result of liver failure caused by ovarian cancer. She died at home in her own bed, surrounded by all of her children, two daughters-in-law, and a sister-in-law. She was diagnosed with the cancer in November of 2020. In the intervening years she endured much to fight the disease, while also living a happy life, lovingly supporting her family, friends, fellow church members both near and far. She refused to be defined by her cancer and she doesn't want to be remembered for it. Cathy was born on 13 April, 1957 to Joseph Itri and Glenna Hatch Itri at Methodist Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She lived with her family in Yeadon, Pennsylvania. Cathy is preceded in death by her parents, and her three older brothers Nicholas (Nick) Craig Itri, Joseph Kent Itri, and John (Jack) Kyle Itri, as well as her sister-in-law Margie (Nick). In Junior High and High School, Cathy studied Latin and French, played clarinet in the band, sang in the choir, and during the last two years worked as an aid in the administration office. She was voted as the most likely to succeed of her graduating class in 1975. Cathy spent 4 years at Brigham Young University (BYU) in Provo, Utah with her grandmother, Josephine Turley Hatch, as her roommate. Cathy attended BYU from 1975 to 1979. She graduated Magna Cum Laude with a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education and was a member of the Omicron Nu Honor Society. During the summer of 1979, Cathy got acquainted with Michael Duane Lloyd who was a member of her church congregation in the Philadelphia suburbs and a recently returned missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ. After a brief courtship, in August of 1979, Cathy and Michael were married and sealed as wife and husband for both time and all eternity in the Washington D.C. Temple of their Church. They lived in multiple states during their nearly 46 year marriage: Idaho, Utah, Pennsylvania, Texas, and Massachusetts. Cathy is survived by her husband, Michael, 5 children, and 13 grandchildren in whom she has great joy: Russell (two children), Melissa (Jeffrey Whitehead and five children), Steven, Joshua (Diana Snyder and six children), and Kent (Liz McGuire). Cathy chose to be a stay at home mother, saying that all she “ever wanted to be was a mommy”. She filled that role with love and excellence. She also served in many assignments in Scouting, PTA, Church youth and women’s organizations, Family History and Genealogy groups, a Bishop’s Storehouse, and at multiple temples of the Church. She had a passion for family history work which included helping others find their ancestors and finding her own Italian ancestors. She earned a certificate in Genealogy Research from Boston University. Through painstaking research, which included four research trips to Italy, she was able to add nearly 5,000 people to the Family Tree of FamilySearch, along with nearly 20,000 source records and other documents and histories that support the existence of those people and others. Cathy was shy, quiet, and seemingly reserved in public. But, for those who got to know her she was bright, happy, and comfortable around those whom she loved. She often made friends with those who were more outgoing then she was. She cared about and for others. They could rely on her to be a listening ear who was attentive to their needs. She was intelligent, smart, wise and dedicated. Her family and friends benefited from her particular wisdom, as Cathy had a gift for seeing the best path forward. Cathy was beautiful, inside and out, but was totally unaware of that fact. As a wife, she was caring, supportive, and helpful, and taught her husband to mature and be kinder to others. Cathy will be sorely missed by her family and hundreds of others who love her. Her family looks forward to the day when we can all be reunited with her in the next life. The family wishes to thank all the doctors and other medical professionals, both in Utah and Massachusetts, who provided care for Cathy during her battle with cancer. Our gratitude goes beyond measure. We also are very grateful for the love and support from Church members, family, and friends who loved and served her.
