Dean Reed Terry

Dean Reed Terry passed away unexpectedly on February 22, 2024 at his home in Lindon, Utah after many years of complications from Diabetes, Neuropathy and Cellulitis. He had recently been diagnosed with Congestive Heart Failure but was expected to rally back. Dean was born in Provo, Utah October 31, 1948 at the stroke of midnight to parents Reed Jay and Dorothy Frampton Terry. Dean was the oldest of 4 children. He attended Grandview and Sunset Elementary, Jr. High in Provo and Provo High School. His senior year at Provo High he was co-captain of the 1966 Football Team. He was offered two scholarships but learned that Utah State would not hold his scholarship if he chose to go on a mission first so he accepted the Scholarship to Snow College where he attended until he received his Mission call to the Central Atlantic States. In 1966, the Military had the draft system and when Dean’s number came up He reported for His physical and His size 13 flat pancake feet were responsible for a diagnosis of ineligible for service. Dean was an Eagle Scout. Dean served a faithful and honorable Mission. He was introduced to De Ann who had attended the rival school down the street, B Y High. One of Dean’s companions had also attended B Y High and asked Dean to go with him to visit his friend. The girl that answered the door had long red hair, a golden Coppertone tan and short cut-off jeans. The date was July 7, 1970. Dean’s friend told his children that he was quite smitten and Dean immediately asked her out. They were married on September 25, 1970 in the Manti LDS Temple. Dean moved in to De Ann’s apartment and they really enjoyed the friends they made in the old Pioneer Ward in Provo. Their rent was $65 a month. In May of 1973 their first child, Travis was born. They soon purchased their first home in Edgemont where in December of 1974 Angela joined the Terry family. In October of 1976, Tiffany was born while living in Lindon and in April of 1978 Weston joined the quickly growing family. Weston was the fourth child and the oldest, Travis, was only 4 years old. A few years later they purchased their home on Lakeview Rd. in Lindon where Heidi was born in October of 1982. Dean loved sports and loved coaching Jr. Jazz and all ages of kid’s sports. Dean taught his sons to handle guns properly and they never missed opening day of the deer hunt. He helped Travis and Weston with their Eagle Scout projects and was proud when they too became Eagle Scouts. Dean worked as a Welder for Pacific States Cast Iron Pipe Co. in Provo where he retired after 41 years. You could count on one hand the days that He missed work in those 41 years. Dean’s children claim that their Father was the hardest worker and knew no quit. Dean loved living in Lindon and he loved his family and enjoyed watching them participate in sports and as the Grandchildren arrived he took great joy in everyone’s accomplishments. He loved to see Daxton and Lincoln playing football for his Alma Mater Provo High. He did his best to support all of the grandchildren but often his health prevented him from traveling very far or sitting for long periods of time. He regretted not spending more time with everyone. Five days before his passing, Dean was determined to attend the State Wrestling Championships. His grandson, Quayde Beck, was wrestling his senior year with Payson High School for the State Title. Dean’s sons made sure Dean was able to attend. Dean, in a wheelchair with his portable oxygen machine witnessed Quayde taking 1st place at the 165 weight. Quayde’s first move after winning was a trip up the stairs to show his gratitude to his Grandpa. Tyson Terry, Dean’s first grandchild to serve a Mission, is scheduled to return home from Mexico on March 13th and the entire family prayed that Dean would heal and be able to welcome Tyson home. Dean was a quiet, but strong and determined man who loved his family and his Heavenly Father. Dean is survived by his wife De Ann, Children Travis (Kristi) Terry, Angie (Vita) Leuga, Tiffany Sophia Gardner, Weston (Kortney) Terry, Heidi (Tyler) Beck, 24 Grandchildren, (8 granddaughters and 16 grandsons) `and 2 great grandsons. Tyson, Cheyenne, Tanner, Amber Dawn and Taylor Terry; Quinlan, Daxton, Lincoln, Creedan and Journey Leuga; McKenna, twins Keola (Katherine) Kalama and Kamaile Kalama and Hudson Gardner; Jack Pearson, Teegan, Memphis and Swayde Terry; Quayde, Colter, Avery, Ruby and Corbin Beck; Great Grandsons Axel and Maddox Kalama; his Brother Marion (Marsha) Terry, Sister Jolene (Greg) Chamberlain. Preceded in death by Parents, Reed Jay and Dorothy Frampton Terry and his Sister Debbie Rumer and Grandson Agelu Leuga. Services for Dean will be held with a viewing Wednesday, February 28th from 6-8 p.m. and Thursday, February 29th 9-10:45 a.m. with Funeral beginning at 11 a.m., both at the Lindon 2nd Ward 610 West 100 South, Lindon, Utah. Interment in Lindon City Cemetery, 600 N 200 E Lindon The family wants to acknowledge the wonderful care Dean received from Utah Home Health and Hospice, J.C., Courtnee and Leo who all went the extra mile in caring for Dean during the last weeks of his life.
