Glenn Cecil Brown

Mar 30, 1948 - Dec 14, 2022 Our loving husband, father, and grandfather Glenn Cecil Brown died peacefully in his home in Sandy, UT and returned to his Heavenly Father on December 14, 2022. He was born on March 30, 1948 in Missoula, Montana, which he referred to as “God’s Country,” to Cecil and Esther Brown. He spent the last 16 years married to his best friend Kathy. He had five children from his first wife (Beverly Dickson): Quentin, Trinnie (Brett), Ben (Becca), Lorin (Kelli), and Tashina (Tim), and accepted Kathy’s two sons with open arms: Gavin (Brenda) and Erik (Wendy). Glenn is survived by his wife Kathy, his 5 children, and 28 grandchildren, his sister Cheryl Spencer (Virgil), 9 of her children, as well as Kathy’s 2 sons and her 6 grandchildren. Glenn graduated from Hellgate High School in 1966 where he was a prominent 3-sport athlete in football, basketball and baseball. So much so that he received several athletic scholarships, ultimately accepting a baseball scholarship with Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho. His dad promised him a new car if he received a scholarship, so right after graduation his dad bought him a 1966 Ford Mustang Convertible, Robin Egg Blue. Within a few years he sold this car to fund his mission service for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Glenn grew up in a family that enjoyed hunting and fishing together, often using their old Willys Jeep. The family joke was Glenn could fish before he could walk! He was raised on a steady diet of duck, goose, grouse, pheasants, deer and elk. At an early age, he was also introduced to the competitiveness of any type of game. His sister Cheryl still remembers that as early as 4 years old Glenn hated to lose. Over the years, Glenn was always the one everyone wanted to beat, at anything. After 2 years of college, Glenn served a mission for his church in what he called the “greatest mission in the Church,” the Southwest Indian Mission from 1968-1970. This experience forever changed the course of his life; anchoring him to his Savior. He has since had a love for the Lamanite people of the Lord and dedicated his life to help fulfill God’s promises to them. After his mission he finished his undergraduate degree from the University of Montana and a few years later completed his Masters degree from Brigham Young University, in Social Services. Glenn started his career working for the Church Education System, first serving in Gila Valley in Arizona for 6 years (1972 - 1978) among the Native Americans in that region. He was then promoted and moved to Littleton, CO (1978-1988), and then to Laramie, WY (1988-1992) before moving to Utah, which would be his home ever since. While in Colorado, Glenn started his family counseling practice, which he did full time when he moved to Utah, and claimed he would never retire as long as there was someone he could help, and he kept his vow. Over his lifetime Glenn served in many church callings including as Branch President, in several Bishoprics, and on the High Council. His true joy, however, came from teaching. Glenn was a true scholar of church history and doctrine. Glenn and Kathy also served a one-year mission in the Sandy, UT Bishop’s Storehouse, which ended up being a 5 ½ year service assignment where he met and served with many incredible people, who became his friends. He was able to witness the hand of the Lord in many instances and will always cherish these years serving alongside Kathy. Some of his favorite hobbies included golf, softball, coaching his kids in many sports, and spending time with his grandkids. He was also a loyal Denver Broncos fan having attended several home games at the Mile High Stadium. In the end, his kids and grandkids will remember him as someone who deeply loved his Savior Jesus Christ and who worked tirelessly to follow Him by emanating his attributes and by serving others.
