Joseph Keith Wood

Joseph Keith Wood (01/08/1943 - 03/30/2024) passed peacefully in his lifelong home. He is survived by his three sons and their spouses; Joseph G. Wood and Rachelle Wood, Kelly A. Wood and Sandra Wood, Wade A. Wood and Gina Wood, as well as two siblings, his older brother James F. Wood and younger sister Jan Wood McBroom. He leaves behind 11 Grandchildren and nearly as many Great Grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Francis Wood Jr (06/27/1918 - 08/31/2004) and MaryLou Housley Wood (09/26/1916 - 04/29/2018), and his loving wife of 52 years Sherrie Lee Jarvis Wood (07/24/1943 - 07/16/2014). As his young life evolved, he would befriend many cruising State Street and eventually finding Sherrie. They married in 1962 as he was joining the United States Navy and off to Miramar Naval Airforce base they went. He earned hazard pay as aircraft carriers shot at the target his plane was towing behind a steel cable during training exercises. After serving 4 years and returning to SLC in 1967, they would settle down and live the family life. He briefly worked odd jobs until landing at the Post Office, he was a natural fit for Foothill on Sunnyside Avenue where he delivered Emigration Canyon residents for 21 years. During his Postal career, he became shop steward, then moved into Union leadership and would eventually be voted in as President of NALC Branch 111 for multiple terms. In his retirement he continued to serve and lead his community as a Crossing Guard. He and Sherrie traveled extensively and in many capacities. He was a practicing founder of Reduce, Recycle, Re-use, build it before buying, anything can be fixed or it can be saved to fix something else. He was a simple and capable man. His choice was to be outdoors, ride a motorcycle, work on cars, take a road trip/cruise, listen to music, after all he was the "Travelin' Man". His favorite team was the underdog. He always enjoyed the company of a large Dog. He was a friend of the Beach, Canyons, and Casino’s. He demonstrated unwavering support for his family and family events throughout his life, he was the Dad to many who never had one. A celebration of life and those passing before him was held on 04/13/2024 at his home.
