Julie Rae Porter (née Andrus)

Julie Rae Porter (née Andrus), born on July 8, 1961, in Salt Lake City, UT passed away peacefully after a battle with cancer on October 23, 2025. She was the beloved daughter of Sharon and Raymond Andrus. Julie grew up in both California and the Salt Lake Valley and raised her five children in Sanpete and Utah counties. She is survived by her mother and all five of her children, Shandi, Tyler, Chase, Rustin, and Ryan. She also leaves behind five sisters and four grandchildren. Although she was a skilled nurse and an excellent cook, being a mother was what she considered her greatest achievement in life. Among many things, we will remember her love for music: her children would come home from school to find her with the music turned up and ride with her in her car listening to 107.5 The End and the various mixtapes she kept in a stash in the glovebox. We’ll remember hearing the rhythmic thud of her doing step aerobics in the morning. We’ll remember the way she laughed at family parties, happy to be the audience and just enjoy the ruckus of her more outspoken loved ones. Most of all, though, we’ll remember the way we felt her love—in both easy and difficult times. It wouldn’t be fair to ignore the fact that she had many years of struggling with various mental and physical health issues. These times shaped her and deepened her empathy and life experience. What’s notable and admirable, though, is that she was always willing to give as much love as she could. Those closest to her have learned invaluable lessons about love and life from watching her example. Even random people at the grocery store were often gifted with a short but sweet interaction with her. She simply wanted to radiate as much warmth as possible. In her final days, she was surrounded by her mother, her children, her sisters, and other loved ones. According to her wishes, we have already held an intimate celebration of life for her, and there will be no formal service. Her family would like to thank everyone who has provided help and reached out with their condolences; we ask that you continue sharing your memories of Julie to help us celebrate her life and remember all the positive impact she had on our lives.
