Kay Franklin Curtis

Wow! What a reunion…we wish we could have seen it. Our beloved Father, Grandfather and Friend, Kay Curtis passed away on Friday February 24, 2023. He slipped away peacefully after a battle with Alzheimer’s and Dementia. Kay was born May 13, 1935 in Salt Lake City Utah. He grew up on 700 E. and 2100 So. Kay attended South High School where he ran track and was a State Champion sprinter. He served a faithful mission to Kingdom of Samoa where he fell in love with the culture and people of the South Pacific. He married Suzanne Kae Kooyman on March 20, 1959. Together they had 3 strapping boys and 3 stunning girls together. Kay was a stalwart member of The Church of Jesus Christ. His testimony was as solid as granite. He never wavered in his belief in God and of the Savior. Kay served 34 years in the Utah Air National Guard and received many awards and accommodations. Dad was a gentle giant; he was always ready to help anyone at the drop of a hat. He quietly served his family and those around him often without anyone knowing it was him. His life was service and he lived it the best he knew how. He was an example to all who knew him. He is survived by his children, Scott Curtis (Debby), Stefanie Stringham (Quentin), Matthew Curtis (Lisa), Jeremy Curtis (Amy), and Emily Curtis, 9 grandchildren who were his pride and joy. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Kae Curtis, his special daughter Shelby Curtis, a granddaughter Abbi Curtis, his parents, Kenneth and Relia Curtis, his two brothers and two sisters. And lastly by a number of best friends and family who loved him dearly. Dad’s last act of service was to make sure everyone was going to be ok and taken care of, again making sure everyone else was happy before him. Once again we wish we could have been there to see the reunion! A viewing will be held in his honor on Friday March 3rd from 6pm- 8 pm and also before the funeral on Saturday March 4th, 9:30 am- 10:30 am at the LDS chapel on 175 E. Sego Lily Dr. Sandy Utah. The funeral will be held at the same LDS chapel on Saturday March 4th at 11 am. Interment will be at the Salt Lake City Cemetery.
