Norma Jean George

Norma Jean George, 88, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away November 5, 2024. She was born February 25,1936 to Frank Laurence Travis and Lillie Caldwell Travis in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Norma Jean’s family moved to the Ogden area when she was a young girl when her family found employment in Ogden during the Great Depression. She attended Ogden City schools including Weber High School. She received an associate degree in music from Weber College. Norma Jean worked at Hill Air Force Base after college where she met the love of her life, Clyde Dean George. They were married June 12, 1959, and had three children. Clyde and Norma Jean shared their life together in the same home for 63 years. Norma Jean loved music. She loved to sing and play the piano and organ, both with family and at Clearfield Community Church services. She loved spending time with her many sisters and brother, which always brought her joy and much laughter for all. Norma Jean was an excellent baker, she liked making pastries, and fancy birthday and wedding cakes. She took pride in canning fruits and vegetables. She won a ribbon at the State Fair for her pickles one year. Above all she was a wonderful mother to her three children! Norma Jean was preceded in death by her husband Clyde, her parents; four sisters, Nellie, Mildred, Virginia, and Marybell; her brother, Bill, and one granddaughter, Jacquelyn George. She is survived by her children, Paula Chu of North Salt Lake, UT; Tim (Donna) George of Langley, WA; Dianna (Curtis) Gerhardt of Roy, UT; five grandchildren, Connor George of Freeland, WA, Camille George of Mukilteo, WA; Bailey Gerhardt of Ogden, UT, Thomas Chu of North Salt Lake, UT, and Cole Chu of North Salt Lake, UT; one great grandson, Jaxen Chankhio of Roy, UT and one sister June Decaria, of Riverdale, UT. Special thanks to the staff at Fairfield Assisted Living and Inspirations Hospice. A Memorial Service honoring Norma Jean will be held at Clearfield Community Church, 525 E. 200 S. Clearfield, UT, on Saturday, November 23, 2024, with friends and family gathering at 11:00am and services at 12 noon.
