Ruth Camila Carroll

A light that refused to dim through the raging storms of life now shines in another sphere. Ruth Camila Carroll entered mortality July 5, 1938, right after the fireworks and left it peacefully February 12, 2025. She was born to Fred Lee and Lera Mae Barnard Dinwiddie Carroll in Denison, Texas. She attended Central Ward Elementary in Denison. Her family moved to Bonham, where she graduated from Bonham High School. She played the clarinet and saxophone. She attended East Texas State University, Commerce, Texas. In 1991, she received her Associate of Science Degree from Utah State Community College, now UVU. Ruth held many jobs and positions, but excelled at being a legal secretary. She tilted at the windmills of poor grammar with a vengeance. She filled volumes with her poetry. She belonged to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and fulfilled various callings there. Her faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and His Restored Gospel grew ever stronger over the years. She cherished her time serving in the temple. She loved music, singing with many ward choirs and leading congregational hymns with precision. We can only assume that she now sings with angels. Ruth enjoyed participating in theater. Notable roles and shows include: the Ghost of Christmas Past in "A Christmas Carol" at the Promised Valley Playhouse in Salt Lake City; Ma Flinders in "Saturday's Warrior" in Dallas; "Big River," "Cotton Patch Gospel" and "Arsenic and Old Lace" with the Sherman Community Players. Her hobbies included politics and watching football. She was so much fun to go shopping with. She loved a good bargain and enjoyed entertaining other shoppers with jokes, smiles and clowning with the merchandise. Survivors in every sense of the word include her children: Joyce (Randy) Gunther, John (Alisa) Fisher, Jesse (Celeste) Fisher and Arthur (Emily) Fisher; seventeen grandchildren and twelve greats. We extend our thanks to Cove Point Retirement Community, Provo, Utah, especially Sissy, Paula, Liz and Cindy, plus all her friends there-- she chose Cove Point because of the magnificent trees, but stayed for the people; Active Home Health and Hospice, especially Laura, Rhonda, John and Stacey; Premier Funeral Services, Orem, Utah, especially Bailey and Charles, for tenderly preparing her for her last trip to Texas; and Fisher Funeral Home, Denison, especially Clayton and Mark, for bringing her home with care and respect. Special thanks to her son, Jesse, and his wife, Celeste, for carrying the greatest load in her end-of-life care and providing her a safe haven in the darkness of Alzheimer's. Interment at Fairview Cemetery, Denison, Friday, February 21, near her parents and beloved brother, Jack Dinwiddie. Her family members left behind will soon gather in Utah for a memorial celebration.
