Trudy Nas

Beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin, and friend, Trudy (Alma Geertruida Theodora Bernadina) Nas passed away peacefully and surrounded by family, at her home in Midvale on June 8th. Born in Arnhem, Netherlands in 1942 to Johanna Maria van den Berg and Theodorus Nas, she was the youngest in a family of six children. In 1964 she married Johannes Geurtsen. In 1965 they welcomed son Maikel. The family emigrated to the United States in 1972, joining members of Trudy’s family, including her mother, aunt and three sisters, in Salt Lake City, Utah. In 1977, Trudy married Michael Rojas and the two welcomed daughter Gabriella later that year. In 1980, they had a son Matthew. Trudy joined her sister Ann in the nursing home business, operating as administrator for the facilities she established in Murray and Springville. As nursing homes dedicated to the care of Veterans with psychiatric needs, Trudy became a beloved figure among the staff and patients, often bringing her own family to celebrate holidays and other occasions at the facilities. She was particularly sensitive to ensuring the men were honored for their service, assisting them with benefits in life and death, especially for those with no family or whose family had limited contact. She was recognized by the VA for her work on a few occasions. Trudy also served as a caretaker for her family, providing comfort and aid to her children, grandchildren, mother, sisters, and other loved ones during times of illness and strife. Her family was central to her life, and the bond she shared with her sisters was particularly enduring. While Trudy loved the United States and Utah, she never forgot her Dutch roots and enjoyed gathering her family and friends for meals of her legendary bahmi, and cherished the several times she returned to Holland to visit her nieces and friends. Trudy is survived by her three children Maikel (Jill), Gabriella (Tyson), and Matthew; her seven grandchildren Austin (Nicole), Alec, Alyviana, Dominic, Nevaeh, Cassius, and Caius. She is preceded in death by her three sisters, Ann, Dora and Mary (Riet), brothers, and her husbands. A funeral mass will be held for Trudy on June 14th at 11:00 AM at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church (9757 South 1700 East, Sandy) followed by interment at Elysian Burial Gardens (1075 East 4580 South, Millcreek).
