Alan Fernandez

April 16, 1954 - January 15, 2022

Alan Fernandez (April 16, 1954 - January 15, 2022) Alan Fernandez passed away peacefully at his home in the care of his loving wife Sharon, after a short battle with cancer on Saturday, January 15th, 2022 at the age of 67. He was born to Kay Ramirez-Fernandez and Tony Fernandez on April 16th, 1954 in Boulder, Colorado. Alan grew up in Lafayette, Colorado. Alan was a hard-working entrepreneur earning his associates degree at Applied Technical College (ATC) Ogden, Utah. His career achievements include retiring from Internal Revenue Service where he was an officer of Hire Local Chapter for Hispanics and owning a carpet cleaning and dinner-bingo business. Alan was a protector and hero to his family, even his pets as he signed their names Rocky, Ben, Bo, and Sassy on greeting cards. He enjoyed watching others enjoy his homemade meals that included chili verde, beans, fried potatoes, vermicelli, and buñuelos. He also cherished his wife Sharon and son-in-law's cooking, iced cold milk, and smelling homemade tortillas reminding him of his mothers. He got excited watching the Denver Broncos and his sons Donavan and Brandon excel at playing football. He especially loved spending valuable time with his oldest son Ryan. He had special relationships with all his daughters Deidre, Andrina, Tina, and Jamie always being there to give advice and listen. His grandchildren had close relationships with him knowing he was always there when needed and attending all of their special events. Proud of his many grandchildren spending special time with Lydi and Nova taking them to get ice cream and to the park. Alan’s hobbies included fishing, camping at Magpie, barbecuing, classic cars, cruising in his 68’ Dodge Polara and Ford Bronco, listening to oldies, playing poker, spades, dominoes, quarters, croquet, backgammon, and was very competitive and would place a bet on anything. He made everyone laugh with his silly and witty humor manifesting many great friendships. He was a father figure to his children's friends, giving everyone a sense of security with no judgment. Always on the go he showed up to help you out and give rides any time of day. As a do-gooder, his true humanitarianism was his passion for equality and fairness; he often joined rallies to support his local community. We are most proud of his 30+ years of alcohol sobriety and becoming an ally to help others suffering addiction. We love you Alan (Dad), we will miss your compassion, understanding soul, charm, phone calls, texts, and smile. Forever imprinted in our hearts, your legacy will live on. You took us as far as your body would allow. You are now free of cancer and we know we will see you again. After losing your son Donavan, you shared your own words of encouragement, “Someday, I will pass on and you all will remember me. I am not afraid to go to heaven, cause I know in my heart I will see all my loved ones waiting for me. I have a lot of support from all my family. I will be fine. There are places I couldn’t go with all of you, but I was there in spirit. What you do in life is your choice. So, someday as I pass, you will all know how proud of a Dad I was to all of you!!!” Preceded in death by his son Donavan Fernandez, father Tony (Gloria) Fernandez, mother Kay Ramirez-Fernandez, niece Anitra Muniz, twin Grandsons Santana & Saint Fernandez. He is survived by his wife and sweetheart Sharon Fernandez; former wife Cheryl (Kurt) Carter, children: Deidre (Tito) Fernandez-Hinton, Ryan Fernandez, Donavan (Angela) Fernandez, Andrina (Mike) Fernandez-Voisard, Jamie Fernandez-Dickamore, Tina (John) Smith, Brandon (Brittany) Fernandez; siblings: Fran (Boomer) Fernandez-Bowman, Rudy (Barbara) Fernandez, Dennis (Ramona) Fernandez, Diana Fernandez-Muniz, Kenneth Fernandez, Andrew (Christine) Muniz, Cheech Brian (Rhonda) Muniz, Eric Fernandez, 22 grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. A public service of sharing memories of Alan will be held from 6-8:00 pm Saturday, January 29th, 2022, at Premier Funeral Service, 5335 South 1950 West, Roy, Utah 84067. His final resting place will be next to his son Donavan Fernandez at Myers Evergreen Memorial Park in Ogden. The family will also have a celebration of life in Lafayette, Colorado in early July 2022.
