Beverly Gaye Patton O'Connor
September 21, 1936 - October 1, 2021
On Oct.1, 2021, Grandmother left us to become the Guardian Angel we always knew she was here on earth. She was the Matriarch in our family, our mentor, our guide, our example, our confidant, our “go to person” for any issue big or small. Beverly Gaye Patton O’Connor was born 9/21/36 in San Antonio, Texas. Her parents were Dorothy Christina Ankerson and Julius Elton Patton. Beverly graduated from Providence High School is San Antonio. In February, 1958, Beverly married Kenneth James Hill. The couple remained married twelve years before divorcing. They had three children: Wendy Lee Hill (Najvar, Allen); Raney Sea Hill; and Sunny Lynn Hill (McEuen, Anthony). Beverly worked 43 years for the Treasury Department before her retirement. Beverly met and married the love of her life, James Franklin O’Connor, March 1, 1975. After retirement from the Treasury Department, Beverly could not stay home. She worked for a private mini storage and U-Haul Center and then a Gift Shop and US Post Office. She was never one to sit still for very long. Beverly and Jim spent time Two Stepping across Texas in their younger years and played Santa & Mrs. Clause in their later years. Beverly was very involved with her children, grandchildren and great children, attending every graduation, birth, wedding or special event that she was able to even when it led her across the country and beyond. The whole family and anyone who knew her called her Grandmother. She was the “glue” for our family always working to keep everyone connected. Her happiest moments were when we were all together. None of us can imagine a day when we can’t call “grandmother” for advice, for comfort, for that one person who understands any situation, any issue and never judges anyone. She even had room in her heart for other people’s children who she gladly took in as her own. She never knew a stranger and her home was always open to anyone who needed a place to stay. She decorated the bedroom of every grandchild and great grandchild complete with the mandatory glowing stars on the ceiling. She had to go on ahead to get our rooms ready in Heaven. Grandmother had a gift for poetry and wrote many poems worthy of Hallmark for her family for many occasions in the spur of the moment. Her camera was a permanent part of her arm at all times as she wanted to capture every family moment possible. Sometimes her picture taking was met with rolling eyes but her photo albums have become legend in the family and any visit to Grandmother’s involved looking through her albums. She has been the keeper of our secrets, the keeper of our memories and we will remember and love her forever. Grandmother was preceded in death by her parents, brother and son, Raney. It will be a glorious reunion. And all of us know she will be watching over us, decorating our homes, picking our clothes, giving unsolicited advice at every turn and making sure we all find our way back to her. A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, Oct 8 at 6:30 PM at 2551 E 1400 N, Layton, UT and Saturday, Oct 30 at 9818 Kenbridge, San Antonio, Texas. The family would like to thank our friends from Bristol Hospice (Jamie, Amber, Lola, Sinnamon and Peggy) for their wonderful care at the end of her life.
