Chellis I Matheny

October 25, 1948 - September 8, 2017

Chellis Matheny, known by all as Chuck, passed away in his home on Friday, September 8, 2017. His beloved dog Tiki patiently stood watch until family members arrived. Chuck graduated from Provo High School in 1966. He joined the US Navy in Nov 1966, completed two tours of duty in Vietnam and was honorably discharged in Nov 1972. He moved to Camas, WA, after his service in the Navy and worked at the Pendleton Woolen Mills. He married Celeste Whitman and they had one child, Michael. They were later divorced. Chuck spent the majority of his career working in the food service industry in Utah and was a master at his trade. He had a special sense of humor and made so many people laugh with his funny facial expressions. He has left a lasting memory of his raised eyebrow in the hearts and minds of his family and friends. Chuck’s interests included walking through cemeteries looking at old headstones, searching internet find-a-grave sites to find relatives’ graves, and he had a keen interest in history and trivia. He could answer nearly every question on Jeopardy. He enjoyed western books and movies, especially John Wayne movies, except McClintock. Chuck enjoyed making people laugh and flirting with ladies that worked at the 7-Eleven and Rite Aid near his home. Late in life, Chuck married Jennifer Haynes. They had two wonderful years together before she passed away. Chuck is survived by his son Michael, sisters Bonnie (Gary), Colleen, Sheila, Malinda and many nephews and nieces that miss him dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Ramona, niece LaRene and his wife Jennifer. A service will be held in his honor, Friday, Sept 15, 2017 at 5 pm at Fellowship Manor, 2334 Monroe Blvd, Ogden, UT.
