David Cyril Curtis
December 29, 1937 - January 30, 2021
David Cyril Curtis, age 83, our beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Saturday, January 30, 2021. David was born on December 29, 1937 to Cyril Henry Curtis, and Rowena Moncur Curtis. He had the opportunity to grow up on Blaine Avenue in Salt Lake City. He Graduated from East High School and continued his education at the University of Utah. David studied piano as a youth, and learned to love beautiful music, and became a talented accompanist. While attending the U of U he volunteered to accompany a beautiful, brown eyed vocalist, Maureen Farnsworth. Through this association, they went on to share beautiful music throughout their life together. Dave and Maureen were married June 4, 1959 in the Salt Lake Temple. David and Maureen had a beautiful life and raised 4 children together. They were later divorced but remained fast friends the rest of their lives. They truly enjoyed music, and passed this love on to their children and grandchildren. Dave was a very talented and expressive pianist. He loved putting on musical presentations for the elderly with his family and did so for many years. He continued this love for sharing his music, and scheduled musical presentations so his children and grandchildren could learn to share their talents with others. For several years, while a senior, his music filled the lobby of the Joseph Smith Memorial Building. He shared this experience with many of his grandchildren during his years of service. Dave loved to travel with his family and see many beautiful places. A favorite of his was San Diego. He loved to sit and enjoy the beauty, and peace of the ocean. Dave had a knack for finding work he enjoyed. He was a restaurant manager, a shoe department manager at JC Penny and he worked 26 years at the Newspaper Agency Corporation as a district sales manager. He was a top sales manager for selling new subscriber orders. Dave was very spontaneous and energetic, with a mischievous, childlike nature. We cherish many memories of his practical jokes that he liked to play on anyone who was there at the moment. Dave had a knack for finding deals. He was very talented at finding vacation spots, wedding rings for his kids, clothes and his favorite cars. He had a great love of animals and treated his pets as members of the family. They would go everywhere with him. David’s listening ear was always available to his family and friends anytime day or night. Dave was always there to support his children in their time of need. Dave was a Jazz fan, and loved to watch them play. With his appreciation for beautiful music, he loved to attend the symphony with family. But most of all, he loved spending time with his children. Dave is survived by his children Julie, Dan (Angela), Jenny (Mike), Loralee, sister Nancy Buma, seven grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and 1 great, great granddaughter. Preceded in death by David Cyril Curtis Jr. (Loralee). A viewing will be held, Saturday, February 6, 2021, at 11:00 am with funeral services following at 12:00 pm.
