Deane Howard Platt
March 10, 1925 - September 15, 2010
Deane Howard Platt was born March 10, 1925 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Francis and Henrietta Hope Russell Platt. He rejoined his family circle on September 15, 2010, gathering again with his siblings Russell, Marion, Dorothy, Richard, Lowell and Pauline–whom he adored and missed. Deane’s clear blue eyes saw a lot during his earthly years. He served his country as a Merchant Marine during WWII and served his God as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He graduated from South High School, was an LDS missionary to the British Isles, and worked as a systems analyst in the early days of computers. Deane loved to work and play hard. While singing with the Sacra Dulce Chorus he met his sweetheart Charlotte Martha Nelson. He made his “best decision” on February 18, 1966 when they were married in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they worked to raise their four children and provided for the needs of many, many others–always creating a sense of family, home and belonging to all who crossed their path. Constantly building, Deane was driven by a desire to make room for everyone. Deane will be missed around the family game table by his wife Charlotte, children and grandchildren: Francine Platt; Alison and Kurt DeWitz, Jayne, Zachary, Joseph; Deena and Michael Christopherson, Abigail, Grant, Henry, James; Jed Platt. We’ll deal you in Grandpa! Deane was blunt, but also loved to tease. Had he written his own obituary, it would have read: “I died. For more information come to the funeral.” Funeral services held Monday, September 20, 2010 at 11 a.m. at the Parleys 4th Ward meetinghouse, 1870 E. Parleys Canyon Blvd (2315 S.). Friends may visit before the service from 9 until 10:30 a.m. Interment Salt Lake City Cemetery.
