Elmer Albert Martinez
September 28, 1936 - November 24, 2016
Elmer Albert Martinez September 28, 1936 – November 24, 2016 Our loving dad, grandpa, brother and friend, Elmer Albert Martinez, passed away at the age of 80 on Thursday, November 24, 2016. He died with his family at his side. Dad was born on September 28, 1936 in Questa, New Mexico to Joe Augustine and Ophelia Romero Martinez. He was the second of eight children. Dad married Mary Louise Orona and together they had five sons and three daughters. Dad worked at Ogden Iron Works as a certified welder; he worked maintenance for the Ogden School District and as an Auto Mechanic. Auto Maintenance was his passion and he taught us how to repair our own cars, but we always seemed to need his assistance no matter how easy or hard the repair was. Anyone who knew Dad knew how much he loved working on cars, fishing and hunting with his boys by his side. He also loved playing music in the garage on an old car radio that was hooked up to a 12-volt battery. Dad was considered the neighborhood mechanic and he was always helping family and friends with their car repairs. He was very generous and would offer his work at no cost to help anyone that really needed it. Dad was also the king of sarcasm; you would always get a good answer but not before he made some sort of comment or poke fun at you; he had a way of getting the point across and he was a master of making fun. Dad raised us children to be good Catholics, have good morals, respect and treat others’ as we would want to be treated; he made sure we followed our Catholic Faith. Dad is survived by his children Anna (Jerry) Angus, Elmer ‘Mike” Martinez, Dean (Wendy) Martinez, Cindy Gibson, John (Manuelita) Martinez, Anthony “Tony” Martinez, Rick Martinez and MaryLou Martinez. He is also survived by five brothers and two sisters, John (Tobi, deceased) Martinez, Henry (Eddie) Martinez, Leo (Phyllis) Martinez, Fred (Esther) Martinez, Ernie Martinez, Jane Martinez and Mary (Jack, deceased) Wilson. He leaves behind 20 grandkids, 32 great grandkids and 2 great great grandkids. Both his parents preceded dad in death. We would like to extend a special thanks to Harrison Point Healthcare and Rehabilitation for their help in caring for dad and Brighton Hospice for assisting with his medical insurance needs. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, November 28, 2016 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 4050 South 3900 West, West Haven, UT 84401. The family will meet with friends on Sunday, November 27, 2016 from 6 to 8 p.m., with a Rosary at 7 p.m. at Premier Funeral Services, 5335 South 1950 West, Roy, UT 84067. “For none of us lives to himself, and none of us dies to himself. For if we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord. So then, whether we live or whether we die, we are the Lord’s. For to this end Christ died and lived again, that he might be Lord both of the dead and of the living.”
