Erma Mae Mitchell Lemmon
February 2, 1932 - July 4, 2017
Erma Mae Mitchell Lemmon 1932 - 2017 Erma Mae Mitchell Lemmon passed away July 4, 2017 just in time for the fireworks to celebrate her life. She was a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother. Erma was born Feb. 9, 1932 in Cedar City, Utah to San Lewis Mitchell and Alice Lauretta Hansen Mitchell. She was the youngest of seven children. Her father passed away soon after she was born, and her mother died when Erma was twelve years old. She was the last of her immediate family to leave this earth. What a joyful reunion must be taking place! Erma lived with her siblings until her “knight in shining armor” swept her off her feet. Arnold “Mont” Lemmon was serving in the Navy when he found this beautiful girl and married her on May 22, 1948. They were sealed in the St. George temple on May 20, 1955. They enjoyed sixty-nine happy years of wedded bliss. They were an example to all of pure devotion. Erma is survived by her loving husband, Arnold Lamont Lemmon, her children, Arnold (Ro Ann) of Lehi, UT; Marvin (Lynn) Lemmon of Elko, NV; Kathy (Steve) Edwards of Elko, NV; eleven grandchildren, and sixteen great-grandchildren. This angelic soul left her family and friends a beautiful legacy; one of powerful and unwavering love, devotion, gratitude, and hard work. Her faith and testimony in her Savior, Jesus Christ, and His gospel was deep and unwavering. Her quest in life was to uplift and please others, especially her family. If she was helping someone, she was happy. She laughed easily and liked to have fun with her kids and grandkids. Without fail, she accepted and magnified whatever calling she received from the Lord, with grace, humility, sacrifice, and hard work. She endowed her family with those same virtues. Erma used her great trials and painful challenges to become a woman of unparalleled strength, determination, and courage. She saw her husband through numerous health problems with her abiding love and devoted service. Nothing could deter this lady from what she wanted to accomplish. She was immovable and unconquerable. In spite of her persistent pain, she would often out-work, out-play, or out-do anyone else in her family when she set her mind to it. “If you set your mind to it, you can accomplish anything you want to do,” was one of her favorite sayings that she lived by as well. Through brute sacrifice she worked outside the home to support her sons on their missions. Many nights she would come home in pain and exhausted, but her love for them, and the Lord’s blessings sustained her. Erma never missed an important event where her children or husband were concerned. She was an amazing homemaker, cook, and baker. She loved and excelled in cake decorating. Her birthday cakes were beautiful! It was always important to her to have the house filled with warm bread, and cakes or cookies. She was a sweet tooth of mega proportions! Her family always knew there would be a special yummy treat waiting with them specifically in mind. Of course, she made sure she spoiled the grandchildren even more! When she could no longer shop, which was one of her greatest passions, she would give money to spoil her grandchildren. We loved her tenderness and unpretentious gratitude. She easily displayed excitement, and pleasure with anything that was given to her. A gift or an act of service, it didn’t matter which. Erma Mae Mitchell Lemmon was a force for goodness and service. She was genuine and humble. Her mission in life was to help, uplift, and strengthen others. She fulfilled her mission with honor! Our earthly angel…. wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. We are grateful to the many people who helped us care for Mom, including those at Abbington Manor and Valeo Hospice Care. Funeral services will be held 1:00 pm, Saturday, July 8, 2017 at the Cedar City North Stake Center (95 North 2125 West) Cedar City, Utah with a viewing prior to services from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm. Interment in the Cedar City Cemetery.
