Ernest "Ernie" James Chadwick
April 18, 1933 - August 25, 2020
Ernest “Ernie” James Chadwick 87, was a beloved son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, and friend to so many. He returned to his Heavenly Father on Tuesday, August 25, 2020. He was welcomed by his father, mother; second wife (Shirlee G. Shaw Chadwick); daughter (Sara Kay); son (Lynn Ray); brother (Glade Chadwick); sister (LaNora Chadwick Mathews), and sister (Elsie Kay Chadwick Spaeth). Ernie was born on April 18, 1933, to Gilbert Sager and Clara Ash Chadwick in Lindon, Utah. He met his first wife, Allene Udy in high school while living in Vale, Oregon. Ernie and Allene had four children, Sara Kay, Lynn ray, Gaylene and Clayton Jay. They raised their family living in Utah while enjoying the outdoors to the fullest through camping and family gardening, which taught the children the work ethic we all knew Ernie to have. Ernie and Allene later divorced. He married Shirlee LaRae Guadio Shaw on December 31, 1977. With fondness he welcomed her son, Craig Madison Shaw and his family into his life. Ernie and Shirlee were later sealed in the Provo Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Shirlee passed away in August 2012. He met and married Dina Suarez in August 2017. He was independent and self-motivated at an early age due to circumstances of his generation and having to provide for himself. He started out as a farm hand and learned to be a tireless worker, which motivated him to become self-employed as a produce supplier (peddler) in the four corners region of the US, and later on to be a mason contractor for 22 years in the intermountain region. He retired at the age of 62, in 1995. Ernie was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and faithfully served as a home teacher/ministering brother throughout his life. Ernie was an achieved golden glove boxer. He loved to hunt but was accidentally shot as a youth while hunting. He survived this accident because of the physical shape he was in. He was an avid gardener. Always grew an abundance of fruits and vegetables to share with family, friends, and whomever would take them. He enjoyed reading western fiction/nonfiction and Louis L’Amour was his favorite author. He spent time playing in the water while prospecting for gold. He enjoyed being with his family and friends whenever possible. He loved taking his fishing boat out whenever he could. Ernie had a passion for tying fishing flies, he spent many hours tying flies that are a real work of art. He enjoyed spending winters in St. George, Utah and playing golf with his friends. A man as humble and loving as Ernie will always be remembered by those of us who knew him. Although we will miss him, his smile, his inability to tell a joke, his love, we take consolation in the good feelings of our memories. Ernie is survived by his wife Dina Bertha Suarez Abad Chadwick; daughter Gaylene (Victor) Salinas’; son Clayton (Crystal) Chadwick; stepson Craig L. Madsen (Peggy) Shaw; stepdaughter Ana Castro (Alexis) Duran, stepdaughter Dina (Jef) Hayes, stepdaughter Daisy (Nathan) Topham; sister Linda (Merrell) Slater; brother Gary (Marilyn) Chadwick; sister Carol (Jim) Frost; grandchildren 17, and great grandchildren 35. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, September 3, 2020, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints chapel, at 888 S Freedom Blvd, Provo, UT 84601. A viewing will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 prior to the services. Interment at the American Fork Cemetery.
