May 11, 1923 - November 15, 2010
Our beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Sister and Friend passed away peacefully at her home November 15, 2010. Ethel was born at home May 11, 1923 in LaJara, Carmel District, Conejos County, Colorado to Joseph Elmer and Annie Prudence Coombs Mott. She is the 6 of 13 children. Preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Gene, Glady Wood, Louie, Lyle, Ken, Dwayne and Jackie. She leaves behind her siblings Troy, Wilma Horton, Gary, Harvey and Jewell Fox. She is the beloved mother of Melanie (Bill) Brandley and Wendy (Malcolm) Nash. Grandmother of Meagan (Cory) Young, Alana, Jessica and Amy Brandley. Emily, Garret, Bethany and Reed Nash. Ethel was a faithful member of the LDS Church and served a mission to Southern California mainly in the Carlsbad and San Diego areas. Her mission was interrupted by the tragic death of her mother. She faithfully returned to the mission field and completed an outstanding mission inspiring and uplifting all she came in contact with. She enjoyed many years as a teacher in Primary and as a temple worker with her husband in the baptistery at the Provo Temple. She faithfully and diligently fulfilled any assignment she was given, determined to give her very best. She attended the U of U for a brief time and graduated from BYU in elementary education. She paid her way through college by working in the nursery at Utah Valley Hospital, a job she loved! Upon graduating she taught 4th grade in Bountiful, Utah. She left teaching to marry her sweetheart Joseph Hafen Jr. in the Salt Lake Temple June 26, 1959. She deeply loved her family and cherished everyone! She was a second mother to her siblings always full of compassion and great wisdom. Her service to her fellowmen was always given in quiet meaningful ways. Her love and example have truly changed all our lives for the better. We want to express our gratitude for the tender concern shown to us by many. We will always be eternally grateful for our angels at VistaCare Hospice, Nancy, Holly, Darla and Dr. Gary Garner. Private viewing and graveside services for family and friends will be held.
