Our sweet father, Eugene Buford Phelps “Boot” passed away peacefully April 12, 2015 in Salt Lake City from heart disease at the age of 87. Eugene is a beloved father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was born in Coffee County Alabama on July 17, 1927. He is the second of six children to Dorothy and Admiral Phelps. Eugene was a painting contractor for 68 years in Southern California and retired at the age of 82. This remarkable man was most happy when he was with his family, working, drinking coffee and smoking cigarettes. He is survived by his two ex-wives, Phyllis Boyle & Sally Phelps, and his four beloved children; Anthony; James (Violet); Elizabeth (Michael); and Vivien (David). He loved his grandchildren Grant (Angie); Kenneth (Michelle); Ryan; Jax; Allie; Cole; and (KyLee & Braden). Eugene left his earthly home to be reunited with his parents, sisters (Mae & Flossy) and grandson (Hunter). He would light up with hugs from his great grandchildren; Lila; Finnian; and Ezra. Eugene served honorably in the U.S. Navy during WWII on the USS Major (Destroyer) and enjoyed many years of reunions with his fellow shipmates. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 15, 2015, at the Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, 17111 South Camp Williams Rd, Bluffdale, UT 84065, at 12:00 noon with a viewing held one hour prior to the service.
