Ewart "Jody" George Muir
June 3, 1952 - March 30, 2014
Ewart G. “Jody” Muir Ewart George “Jody” Muir passed away unexpectedly on March 30, 2014 while visiting his daughter Michelle in Salt Lake City, Utah. Jody was born June 3, 1952 to Ewart and Luella Muir in Soda Springs, Idaho). Jody was the oldest of seven children and raised on a cattle ranch in Grayslake, Idaho. As a child, Jody loved to fish, often sneaking away from his haying and milking duties to get a little fishing in. It was said you could take Jody out of Grayslake; but you couldn’t take the Grayslake out of Jody. Jody married Lorri Hayes on October 19, 1976 in the Idaho Falls Temple. Together, they had six children, Heath (Salt Lake City, Utah) Kyle and Kristy (Vernal, Utah), Melanie and Tyler Wallace (Roosevelt, Utah), Bryce (Roosevelt, Utah), Michelle Brown (West Jordan, Utah) and Brayden and Cami (Aurora, Colorado). Jody is survived by his wife, Lorri, his children, their spouses and 15 grandchildren: Ethan, Korbin, Tristin, McKenzie, Logan, Conlan, Merida, Dyllan, Hailee, Levi, Dallon, Paxton, Elaina, Boston and Mason. He also survived by his siblings: Ranea (Lane Rich), Brian (Alicia), Will, Lori, and Lonnie (Sherrie). He was preceded in death by his parent, his wife’s parents, Loran and Hope Hayes, and youngest brother Tim. Jody chose his profession by the time he was four years old. Inherent in Jody were mechanical talents that supported his family and served his fellow man. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He served as the ward financial clerk, in the Elder’s Quorum, and most recently as a primary teacher, which was his most favorite calling. He loved his primary class and enjoyed teaching each week. His granddaughter, McKenzie was in his class and loved being taught by Grandpa. Jody’s entire world was his children, grandchildren and the Dallas Cowboys when they were winning. When Troy Aikman left, Jody stopped watching the Cowboys play. He loved to drive the back-country roads of Grayslake and picking a direction and just going. He would let a child pick a direction until he came to a crossroad. Then the next child would get to pick a direction. He knew the back way into every town in Southeast Idaho. There aren’t words to describe how much Jody did for his family and how much he will be missed. Each grandchild thought he or she was Grandpa’s favorite. His children feel honored to have been raised by such a wonderful man. The love he shared will be felt forever. Funeral services will be held at the Bailey Creek Chapel in Soda Springs, Idaho on April 4th at noon. A viewing will be held at 11:00 a.m. preceding the service.
