Francis Lewis Pratt

March 27, 1934 - December 30, 2010

Francis Lewis Pratt 76, passed peacefully on December 30, 2010. He endured acute myeloid leukemia for 2.5 years telling everyone “I'm just fine, there's nothing wrong with me.” Lewis focused his life on total devotion to family, service to others and a commitment to live the Savior's teachings. He was a “hands-on” father, leading by example in every-day life: teaching the value of working hard: while always reaching out to help others and keeping his home open to those in need. He had a passion for the outdoors, family time, camping, hunting, fishing, boating, water skiing, 4-wheeling and cooking his famous Dutch Oven meals. Lewis loved gardening, family reunions, BYU football, traveling the world, fixing and building. He built our family homes and assisted his children with building their homes. He graduated BYU with a BS in Civil Engineering in 1977 while working full-time. His professional career as a Civil Engineer and Land Surveyor included employment at: BYU, State Dept. of Highways, Bureau of Reclamation and ALM Engineering. He volunteered his many talents as: Vice Pres. BYU Student Chapter American Society of Civil Engineers, Utah Council Land Surveyors and Board of Directors-Council of Land Surveyors, Board of Governors-National Society of Professional Surveyors, Mapleton City Planning Comm, Precinct Chairman - State and County Delegate, BYU Social Club Phi Beta Chi Advisors. He was a United States Marine Reserve. Lewis was dedicated to the LDS church and held many callings: Great Lakes Mission, Employment Mission, Family History Consultant, Stake Singles Couple, and Bishop BYU 110th Ward. Lewis married Myrna Meeks in the St. George Temple for time and all eternity December 13, 1957. Lewis was born March 27, 1934 in Mesquite, Nevada to Luella Mariah Hughes Strasser and Lewis Pratt. His early childhood years were spent in Mesquite with numerous cousins. He is survived by his wife, Myrna: children, Lori Anne (Ross) Gull; Linda Kaye (Jim) Brooks; Kenneth Wayne (Lynette); and Laura Despain (Brent) Stagg foster daughter; sister Loretta (Howard) Pymm; halfbrother Dilworth Strasser. He has 12 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his son Robert Lewis Nagoya Japan Mission, Parents Lewis and Luella Pratt, brothers Art Strasser, Ether Pratt and sister LaRay McGuire. Services will be held Tuesday, January 4 at noon: LDS Chapel, 1440 East 900 South, Springville. Viewings Monday, at the church Jananuary 3 from 5:00-7:00 and one hour prior to service. Interment at Orem City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests a contribution to Huntsman Cancer Center.
