Gay Evans Horchner
March 27, 1937 - October 11, 2013
Gay Evans Horchner, 76, of Draper, UT, passed away from cancer at the home of her eldest son on October 11, 2013. She was born on March 27, 1937 in Meyersdale, PA and was affectionately known by her grand kids as "Nana." She is survived by her two sons, Steve and Jeff Trauba; two daughters in-law, DeAnne Trauba and Beth Dorsey; brother Dale Horchner, and six grandkids. She was preceded in death by her brother Frantz Horchner, mother Velma Horchner, and father H. Andrew Horchner. Gay graduated from Slippery Rock University in Pennsylvania with a degree in education. She taught school in Beaver Falls, PA and in Alhambra, California. She later worked for the Washington State legislature and for over 25 years in the real estate industry in Pennsylvania and Washington State. She retired from real estate in 2009 and then split her time between her two son's families in California and Utah. She was married to John P. Trauba in 1964 and divorced in 1976. She was a knitter of things, gardner of plants, walker of miles, reader of much, and conversationalist to many. Her favorite pastime was gardening however. She had a green thumb as well as an eye for plant arrangements and was always trying to make her creations "look better." She taught kitting to some of her grandchildren and enjoyed helping others through their problems. Prior to her illness, she walked 5 miles daily and was in excellent shape. Finally, she loved to read and was always engrossed in several books at a time. She will be dearly missed, leaving a legacy of wonderful memories. A memorial service will be held July 2014 in Washington state. Details will be announced at a later date.
