Guy O Gillett

November 22, 1931 - November 12, 2010

Sergeant First Class Guy Orville Gillett passed away Friday November 12th 2010 in Salt Lake City. Guy was the first of 6 children born to Orville and Ruth Gillett of Lehi UT. Born November 22nd 1931 he spent his childhood in Utah. At the age of 17 he enlisted in the army. He served honorably for 22 years including duty in Korea and Vietnam. Among his many commendations 3 purple hearts are perhaps the most telling of his service and dedication to his country. Throughout his military career he was ranked an expert rifleman winning numerous commendations. Guy remained very patriotic and was a proud lifetime member of the republican national party and a benefactor member of the NRA. In 1954 Guy married Darlene June Nyman and they had 2 children, Rosalie and Michael Guy. He was a devoted and loving father and raised his family in Missouri. Guy and Darlene were divorced and he married Ada Mitchell in 1974 but they too later divorced. He spent some years living and working in Utah. In the mid 80's he left Utah to live in Wendover, NV and try his luck at poker. He became an exceptional poker player and made it his profession. While living in NV he was reunited with his first love Darlene. They spent many wonderful years together and he lovingly took care of her until her death in 2008. Guy was a great man with a dry sense of humor. He was very proud and firm in his beliefs. He enjoyed doing many things but his passion was playing poker. He loved and cared for his family and was always there to lend a helping hand. Guy is loved and will be missed dearly by all who knew him! Guy is survived by his brother Karl, sisters Ruth and Judy, daughter Rosalie, son Michael and his wife Judy, 3 grandchildren, Misty, J.B. and Neil. 7 great grand children and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Fred and Vaughn and his wife Darlene. In lieu of flowers please make a charitable contribution to a worthwhile cause in his name. Funeral services will by 1:00 pm, November 17, 2010 at the Utah Veterans Memorial Park, 17111 South Camp Williams Road, Riverton, Utah where friends may gather prior to services.
