Bernard passed away in 1973 in Canoga Park after all their children had been married. Helen stayed in Canoga Park until she moved to Sandy, Utah in 1983. She remained in Sandy until 2010 when she moved to Grantsville, Utah to live with her son Don and his wife, Linda. Helen was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
