Helen Mellor Davis passed away on March 2, 2014 at the age of 96, in her son Don’s home, from the advancing symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease. She was born 22 March 1917, in Fayette, Utah, the daughter of Archie Myron Mellor and Elvira Barbara Peterson. She had an older brother, Myron and a younger sister Marjorie. She spent her first nine years in Fayette, where she recalled many firsts in that small town. She remembered the first auto driving down the street, the first plane to fly over, when electricity came, the first motion picture in town and when they were able to get indoor plumbing. She moved with her family to Manti in 1926 and attended the schools there. She graduated from Manti high school as the valedictorian of her class in 1934. She went on and graduated from Snow College. When she was working in SLC at the University of Utah her brother, Myron, introduced her to his roommate, Bernard C. Davis. They took Bernard with them to Manti on a visit to their family. Helen and Bernard began dating and when he was transferred to Saint Louis he asked Helen to marry him. They were married in Saint Louis in December 1937. Three children were born to them, Brian in 1942, Steven in 1947 and Don in 1949. They lived in San Francisco, Fresno and Canoga Park California where they raised their children. Bernard passed away in 1973 in Canoga Park after all their children had been married. Helen stayed in Canoga Park until she moved to Sandy, Utah in 1983. She remained in Sandy until 2010 when she moved to Grantsville, Utah to live with her son Don and his wife, Linda. Helen was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She held many positions including Ward Relief Society President and was in the Stake Relief Society presidency. All three of her sons went on missions for the church and were married in the temple. Helen was survived by her son, Don (of Grantsville), her three daughter-in-laws, Don’s wife Linda Mariam Wilde, Brian’s wife Susan Church Davis Daum (of Wilmington, Delaware) and Steven’s wife Susan Mann Davis (of Oxnard, California), 16 grandchildren and 37 great grandchildren. Proceeding Helen to the other side of the veil were her parents, her brother and sister, her husband Bernard, her two eldest sons, Brian and Steven, and one great grandchild.
