Jacqueline "Jackie" Lynne Dick

June 14, 1968 - January 12, 2013

Jacqueline Lynne Dick (Jackie), 44, of Sandy, Utah, returned to the arms of her Heavenly Father, Saturday, January 12, 2013, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was surrounded by family. Jackie was the eldest child of Faye and Benton Shepherd, born June 14, 1968 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Jackie married Martin Alan Dick on April 8th, 1989, in Price, Utah. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on May 31, 1991. Jackie graduated from Kearns High School, Class of 1985. Jackie had a talent for singing, she sang with the Kearns High Madrigals, her first great passion. Jackie later earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from the Great Basin College in Elko, Nevada. She was Honorary Alumni at both Utah State University and College of Eastern Utah. Jackie’s love for teaching took her to Idaho where she was a substitute teacher for both the Twin Falls School District and Jerome School District; she then found a wonderful teaching position working with the Fifth grade for five years at Lincoln Elementary in Twin Falls, Idaho. She had many wonderful friends and colleagues who looked up to her and will miss her dearly. Jackie’s latest teaching position was in Kuwait, teaching fourth grade at a private, bilingual school, where she taught for a year before returning to Utah. She made many friendships while in Kuwait with other educators who came from all over the world. Jackie took up crocheting regularly the past few months. She made hats, scarves and many other creations her friends and family will cherish forever. She loved going for long drives with Martin, exploring neighboring towns and surrounding areas of Idaho and Utah, she would be excited to get back to her daughters to tell all about her recent adventure exploring somewhere she’d never been. Jackie loved springtime because it was so green and new. Her family shared her love of Halloween as their favorite holiday. Jackie loved reading books, she was a big fan of Twilight, TEAM EDWARD! Jackie is survived by her devoted and loving husband, Martin; daughters Camilia and Stephani; parents Faye and Benton; brother Shilo (Lisa); and many aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, and cousins. A special thank you to all the wonderful, caring healthcare professionals who took care of Jackie; Especially to the many doctors, nurses, and aides at the Huntsman Cancer Institute who were a tremendous comfort and support to Jackie and her family at the end. Memorial services will be held Friday, January 18th, 11:00 a.m., at the Westwood Heights 2nd Ward LDS Chapel, 3970 West Dimrall Drive (5615 South), Kearns, Utah. A viewing will be held prior to services, where family and friends may call from 10:00 until 10:45 a.m.
