James Earl Campbell

October 19, 1931 - October 21, 2021

Our beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, James Earl Campbell, graduated from this life on October 21, 2021, in Springville, Utah. Jim was born in Ruth, Nevada on October 19, 1931, to James Lester Campbell and Minnie Iola Koonce Caldwell. He married Marie Manwaring on July 27, 1949, in the Logan Temple, and they had 7 children together. He was loved by many for his generosity, kindness, charity, humor, listening ear, and his cheerful smile. Jim loved to visit with strangers who crossed his path. One of his many popular sayings when he said goodbye was “See you in the funny papers!” Jim loved golfing, camping, reading and studying the scriptures. Jim also loved to fish, although he would always remind people that “I love to fish, but I won’t eat it!” Jim made excellent homemade bread, which he loved to share with his neighbors and friends. Jim volunteered for the Air National Guard and then served in the Naval Air Corps, where he was nearly deployed to Korea. Jim advanced from stock-boy to top Manager at JCPenney, where he worked for 43 years. His job at JCPenney took him and his family to many areas across the United States. Upon retirement, he moved to Provo, Utah. After the death of his beloved wife, Marie, in 1996, he married Nancy Chambers McNall in 1997. They were happily married until she died in 2020. Jim served well in many callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including in Bishoprics, Branch Presidencies, Stake Presidencies, and as a Stake President, Regional Representative, Temple Sealer, MTC Director, and Patriarch. Jim was guided through his life and decisions by listening to the promptings of the Holy Ghost. As he endured his health trials of cancer, macular degeneration, and dementia, he continued with his wit, love, and humor. When referring to all the people coming in and out of his room at the care center, he would say “What is this, Grand Central Station?”. A special thank you to Ashford Memory Care Staff and Encompass Hospice Staff for their outstanding care. Jim is survived by Eldred Caldwell (Elaine), Eldon Jensen, Lowell Roberts, Ila Manwaring Morrill (Brent), Eugene Manwaring (Marilyn), Wayne Manwaring (Chris), and preceded in death by Marie Manwaring Campbell, Nancy Chambers McNall Campbell, Gerald Lee Campbell, DeMar “Ivan” Campbell (Verna), Mary Alice Brooks, Jenene Caldwell Jensen, Wesley Brooks (Betty), Esther Campbell Hutchings (Dallas), Jim Brooks (Barbara), Tom Campbell (Sheila), and Elaine Manwaring Roberts. His children are Craig Campbell (Sharee), Cheryl Davis (Larry), Robert Campbell (KayLynn), Richard Campbell (Becky), Suzanne Wilbur (Rick), Stephanie Brown (Gary), and Julie Spencer (Bob). His stepchildren are Mike McNall (Sue), Debbi Jones (Kirby), Janet Kennedy, Beverly Reed (Kenneth), Scott McNall (Roberta), and Chip McNall (Angie). He has 57 grandchildren and 61 great-grandchildren and loved each of them. He will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 30, 2021, at the Grandview Building of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (1555 North 1350 West; Provo, Utah). The viewing will be at 10:00 a.m. He will be interned at the Provo City Cemetery. The family requests masks to be worn at all services To participate in the services via Zoom: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/84336185553 meeting ID: 843 3618 5553
