James Robert Mascher
September 8, 1936 - January 2, 2022
JAMES ROBERT MASCHER James (Jim) Robert Mascher of American Fork passed away from liver cancer at home on January 2, 2022 with his wife Sharon by his side. They had just celebrated 66 years of marriage. Jim was born on September 8, 1936 to Irvin Mascher and Iola Bowlin in Gary, Indiana. He had wonderful memories of going to the Cubs game, making them his favorite team. In 1955 it was love at first sight when Jim saw Sharon at Liberty Park in Salt Lake City. After he and his friend were following Sharon and Joyce, the girls “sicced” the cops on them and made them leave them alone. The boys, not to be deterred, found their names in the South High yearbook and asked them out for a double date. They took them to get pizza (a first for Sharon!) and the rest was history. They were married on December 26, 1955. Jim and Sharon had four daughters, Diane/Deedee Barber (Les), Linda Mascher Griego (Evans), Kelli Davey (Mike) and Sandy Call (Jim). Jim loved to joke saying he and the dog were the only men in the family. It would be hard to find a more faithful provider than Jim Mascher, who was employed with Mountain Fuel (now Dominion Energy) for 35 years in various departments ending up as Director of Data Processing. In 1992 Jim realized his goal of retiring early and enjoyed golfing, reading, and spending time with his family. The family would like to thank Allie, Kim and the other hospice workers for their time and kindness as they took care of Jim for the past 14 months. Jim is survived by his wife, daughters, 14 grandchildren, four great grandchildren and his siblings, Lauretta, Jean, Terry, Don, Shirley, JoAnn, Mike, Leonard, and Colleen. Jim had a passion for reading and inspired many of us with a love for books. We will always remember the strength, love, and devotion he brought to our family. There will be no funeral services at this time, but possibly a memorial later in the spring.
