James Lorenzo Pope

July 18, 2001 - November 30, 2020

James Pope 2001 - 2020 On Monday, November 30, 2020 James Lorenzo Pope, loving son and brother, passed away at the age of 19. James was born on July 18, 2001 in American Fork, Utah to Curtis and Terri (Moat) Pope. He grew up and resided in Lehi and graduated from Lehi High School in May of 2019. Afterwards he completed a year of college at Utah Valley University where he had a full tuition academic scholarship. James was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. His whole life he wanted to be a missionary, and he opened his mission call on September 9, 2020 to Nashville, Tennessee where he was planning to preach the gospel in the Spanish language. He began the online Missionary Training Center on November 18,2020. He spent the last couple weeks of his mortal life learning and teaching in Spanish at the MTC. James was loved by all who knew him. He had the kindest heart and was constantly looking out for others. He loved to read and to create. He made rings out of melted aluminum and loved to draw. He loved music, especially the piano, and he loved to compose and arrange his own songs. He spent much of his time building up others around him and encouraging them to do the things they loved. He was very intelligent, a hard worker, and he put much time and effort into his schooling. He wanted to help everyone around him. James loved children and looked forward to the arrival of his first niece in February. He loved God and put everything into his missionary service. He had an enthusiasm and love for the gospel and was excited to share that hopeful message with the world. James is survived by his parents, Curtis and Terri Pope, as well as his four siblings, Alayna Pingel and her husband Taylor, Allison, Camilla, and Anderson, and his loving girlfriend Sabrina Hanks. He is also survived by his four grandparents, David and RoLayne Moat, and Lorenzo and Nancy Pope. A funeral service will be held 12:00 Noon, Saturday, December 5, 2020. It will be broadcast online via this link: https://youtube.com/channel/UCykcaTofAGSDRM0IqgLqeAQ.
