Jeniel Barlow Kalm

August 29, 1930 - February 23, 2017

Our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt, Jeniel Barlow Kalm, age 86, passed away surrounded by her family on February 23, 2017. She was born on August 29, 1930 in Salt Lake City, the fourth of six children of Milton and Marie Barlow. From the time she was a child Jeniel worked closely with her mother learning the art of homemaking. She loved to sew, cook and garden. She loved spending time with her siblings. They were her best friends growing up. Following graduation from East High School, Jeniel attended Stevens-Henager College. She married her sweetheart Samuel M Kalm at the age of 19 in the SLC LDS Temple. Her wedding dress was designed and sewn by her mother. The fabric was unique as it was made out of a parachute. She resided in the Salt Lake Valley where she raised 7 children who were the love of her life on most days. Besides being a mother she was an administrative assistant for many different companies. As a devoted and active member in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Jeniel served diligently in many callings throughout her life. She loved the Lord and cherished her testimony and membership in the Church. Jeniel enjoyed a lifetime association with many wonderful people. Dinner group, book club, Daughters of the Utah Pioneers kept her involved. Her children and grandchildren were the light of her life. She loved holidays, birthdays and family gatherings. Thru the years Jeniel devoted her life to serving others. Many enjoyed her yummy carmel popcorn balls and other thoughtful gestures. Jeniel had a love of the arts. She sang for many years with the Sweet Adeline’s and loved attending Hale Theatre with family and friends. Jeniel was most known for her special gift of writing poems, road shows and skits. She is preceded in death by two brothers, a sister, a husband, and two infant daughters, Jeannine & Afton Marie. Survived by Kathy (Lyle) Williams, Karen Kalm, Kristine (Brad) Handley, Scott Kalm, Steve Kalm, Jeff (Genaliza) Kalm, Casey Kalm, 12 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. We express our appreciation to the special caregivers at Millcreek and AFI Hospice and Traditions Assisted Living Center, for their compassionate care. Open House will be held at the Winder 3rd Ward, located at 1200 East 4551 South, SLC on February 27, 2017 at 1:00 PM. Interment will follow at Elysian Gardens Cemetery located at 1075 East 4580 South. The world has lost a sweet incredible woman who will forever be in our hearts as we remember one who would do anything for others.
