Joan Venable Rasmussen

August 13, 1938 - September 10, 2020

Joan Venable Rasmussen August 13, 1938 – September 10, 2020 Joan Rasmussen passed away peacefully at her home on September 10th 2020, at the age of 82. She was born August 13th 1938 in Ogden, Utah to Ray William and Violet Adeline Venable. She married the love of her life, Robert Kay Rasmussen, on May 17th 1956. She was a loving wife, a wonderful mother, and the best grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother anybody could ever ask for. Some of Joan’s favorite pastimes were to shop and play the slot machines in Wendover. She loved a night out with family and dinner at the “Wagon Wheel”. She always had the funniest sayings, we call them “grandma-isms”, and they will continue on in our family forever. If any of us were to ever answer a question of hers by saying “huh?” she would say, “A pig says huh, if you pull its tail it says uhh – uhh”. Another favorite “grandma-ism” of ours is her always telling us, “You’re big enough, old enough, and ugly enough” but in the most loving way! If any of us were to say that we can’t do something, she would say “Cant’s a slugger too lazy to try.” It should also be known that she was a Chicago Bears and a Utah Jazz fan although none of us know why, but she loved them. These are just a few precious memories that we will forever cherish. Joan is survived by her sister, Sharon Tracy-Cox, of Roy; three superstar daughters; Connie (Evan) Scarborough, Carrie (Jeff) Gresham, and Genae Rasmussen (Irene), all of Roy; four epic grandchildren; Taryn (Sam) Johnson, West Point; Broc (Jennifer) Gresham, South Ogden; Breanne (Nick) Hughes, Layton; and Nick Scarborough, Roy; eleven amazing great-grandchildren, and many up and coming legendary great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert (Papa) Rasmussen; both of her parents and her sister, Donna Sorensen. A memorial service for family and close friends will be held at a later date. The family would like to give a huge thank you to Gigi, Julie, Melissa, Sandy, Maria, Matthew, Steve and Teresa from South Davis Home Health and Hospice, for all of the love and care they provided to Joan over the past several years. She loved all of you so much. Also, a very special thank you to all the loving family, that throughout all these years, dedicated their own time and effort to handle all the behind the scenes and day to day tasks so that she was able to stay and enjoy the rest of her life in the comfort of her own home.
