John Manuel Gustamantes III Salt Lake City – John Manuel Gustamantes III “Gus” passed away peacefully after a long battle with kidney and liver disease on September 20, 2018. “Gus” was born August 16, 1949 in Denver, Colorado to Mary Cisneros and John M. Gustamantes Jr. He is survived by his daughter Justina Gustamantes and son Anthony Chavez, two stepdaughters Stephanie Van Rij (Dan) and Melody Martinez, brother Joseph Lucero and sisters Augusta Stephenson, Alice Bennett, many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother Mary Cisneros Lopez, father John M Gustamantes Jr. and Step Sister Linda Leighton. “Gus” was a proud Veteran of the US Army having served in the Vietnam War. He had a very fun and charismatic personality making friends with just about any one he came in contact with. He enjoyed golfing, baseball, riding his motorcycle, U of U football games and was a Denver Bronco’s fan. Most of all, he loved his family and friends. We want to give a special thanks to Joseph Lucero (brother), Maria Lopez (niece), and the medical providers at the VA Hospital for taking such good care of “Gus”. Services will be held Monday, October 1, 2018 at 12:30 p.m. at Victory Outreach, 2358 So. Main Street, Salt Lake City Utah 84115. Graveside service: 2:30 p.m. at Utah Veterans Cemetery & Memorial Park, 17111 South Camp Williams Road, Bluffdale, Utah 84065. Food and gathering to follow at Ignite, 1055 North Redwood Road, Salt Lake City, Utah 84116.
