John Wesley Skidmore

John Wesley Skidmore passed away peacefully in his sleep at his daughters home, January 8, 2013, at the age of 81. He was born May 28, 1931, to John Reed & Edith Marie Skidmore. He was the second of four children. At the age of 19, John served a 2-year LDS mission to the Texas-Louisiana Mission, where he was proud to announce he went “without purse or script.” After returning home, John attended Brigham Young University where he studied art and was a member of the Air Force Reserve. While at BYU he met Iva P. Pullen and they were married September 15, 1954, in the Salt Lake City Temple. They are the parents of 5 children. After graduation he went to officers training and then served in the United States Air Force for 6 years. His service took him to Texas, Michigan, and Indiana. John had a great love for the LDS Temple and served as a temple worker in Arizona and Provo Temple for 15 years. He was able to combine his great love for the temple and his artistic talent as he created over 30 paintings and renderings of the LDS Temples. John was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Charles and Karl. He is survived by his wife, Iva, 5 children – Denita (Larry) Ellis of Lehi, UT, John (Laura) Skidmore of Mesa, AZ, Linda (Shane) Webster of Rexburg, ID, Dale (Valerie) Skidmore of Gilbert, AZ, Janine (Dean) Hansen of Lehi, UT, 18 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 12th at the LDS meeting house at 1020 East 1900 North, Lehi, UT 84043. A viewing will be held the night before on Friday, January 11th from 6-8 pm and Saturday morning prior to the funeral from 10:00-10:45. Interment will follow at the Lehi City Cemetery.
