October 16, 1933 - September 8, 2018
Joyce Cleone Tillotson Robertson Our dear mother, Joyce Cleone Tillotson Robertson returned home to her cherished husband, parents, and other loved ones on Saturday, September 8, 2018. Joyce was the adored youngest child born to Porter Squires and Buena May Anderson Tillotson on October 16, 1933. At the time of her birth, her older siblings were Helen (12 years), Marion (6 years), and Joseph (9 years). The family lived in Ogden, Utah but later moved to Denver, Colorado where Joyce graduated from high school and met her husband James Lyman Robertson. They were married on May 15, 1952 in the Salt Lake City Temple. Jim and Joyce began their family in Pasadena and San Diego, California and returned to Brigham City, Utah, later moving to South Ogden and then to Bountiful. Joyce supported her family’s active lifestyle and enjoyed the togetherness their frequent activities created. She doted over her beloved late husband and her four children: Jim of Kaysville, UT; Kim Malan of Provo, UT; Kent of San Clemente, CA; and Barry of Farmington, UT who have been the luckiest people on earth to have been the recipients of her love, care, nurturing, encouragement, and her healthy, comfortable home. Joyce, though of quiet disposition, was well known for her remarkable appearance. She was blessed with a natural beauty that she enhanced with her interest in fashion trends that even in her final years, afflicted by Alzheimer’s disease, was a keen interest of hers. Indeed, her sweet disposition, a feature that endeared her to many fast and loyal friends, was one thing that Alzheimer’s disease did not take from her. Joyce’s proudest achievements and eternal delights are her 4 children, 20 grandchildren, and 21 great grandchildren – so far. She was an adamant believer in the faith of her fathers and in the joy of seeing the baton passed to the rising generations of a firm foundation in the Gospel of Jesus Christ. That is what she said would be her best reward for a life well lived. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, September 15, at 10:00 a.m. at the LDS Birch Creek 4th Ward, 4955 Adams Avenue, South Ogden, Utah 84403 We want to thank those who served our mother (and father) so lovingly at Heartfelt Assisted Living in Centerville. Joyce Cleone Tillotson September 8, 2018 Joyce Cleone Tillotson was the youngest child born to her loving parent and her 3 adoring siblings on October 16, 1933 in Ogden, Utah where she lived until age 14 when her family moved to Denver, CO. Joyce was 16 years old, attending high school in Denver, when 24-year-old Jim Robertson called to ask her older sister Marion for a date. Joyce took the call and she ended up getting the date with Jim which started their 65-year romance. At that time Jim was a college man and had to wait for Joyce to graduate from high school and attend one semester at BYU before marrying her on May 15, 1952 in Salt Lake City. Jim and Joyce moved to California where Jim worked in radio marketing and three of their four children were born (Jim, Kim, and Kent). They returned to Utah in 1960 where Jim worked for Thiokol and then started his own businesses. Their 4th child (Barry) was born in Brigham City. Jim and Joyce lived 17 years in Ogden and 38 years in Bountiful. They spent their final years in Centerville. Jim passed away June 14, 2016. Joyce grew in her love for Jesus Christ and His Gospel, and she instilled that love into the hearts of her children. She has always been a loving and stabilizing influence for her family as she supported, encouraged, and expressed love to each member. She had a flair for keeping a beautiful and orderly home, and although she did not have a passion for cooking she always had a nice well-balanced meal prepared at 5:00 p.m. and a good breakfast each morning for her family. But those who know Joyce have noticed that she has a sweet tooth and would choose sweets over eating a meal. Her favorite treats are chocolates, especially with nuts. Joyce’s family has many happy memories of being together and going on family vacations, water skiing and snow skiing, swimming, etc. Those fun memories grew with the arrival of 20 grandchildren, and Joyce currently has 22 great grandchildren. Joyce was a faithful wife and mother, and a good friend. She was especially proud of and grateful for her husband and children and their families, and she looked for every opportunity to compliment and express love and appreciation to them and everyone she met. Her smile melted every heart. Her family cherishes Joyce’s love and support throughout their lives!!! Joyce would say that her greatest joy in this life has been her family, and she believed that the greatest gift she could give to her children and grandchildren is the firm foundation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
