Karma Holmes Wood
December 5, 1929 - March 7, 2016
On March 7, our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother passed away. She leaves behind a legacy of love, service, hard work, and family devotion. Karma was born, at home, December 5, 1929 in Harper Ward, UT to parents Gideon Martin Holmes and Lenora Hunter; she was the seventh of ten children. She often shared fond memories of growing up on the farm and her relationship with her brothers and sisters. She graduated from Box Elder High School in 1948 where she excelled in business and secretarial skills. She attended BYU and Weber College. She married Leslie R Wood on November 15, 1951 in the Logan Temple. They made their home between California and Utah, finally settling in San Jose in 1962 to raise their family of four children. She treasured family outings and gatherings, and especially at Christmastime playing and singing her favorite carols. She loved music and her lovely, rich soprano voice brought joy and happiness to others on many occasions. She was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many callings, her favorite being her service with the Young Women; later she enjoyed serving in the Oakland Temple. In 1991, Karma retired after 21 years from San Jose East Side Union High School district and she and Les moved to Citrus Heights California. In 2008, she moved to Legacy House in South Jordan, Utah. Karma lived a life of faith, kindness and gratitude, with a natural desire for the comfort and welfare of others before her own. She is preceded in death by her husband, and is survived by her four children Susan (Wayne) Nichols, Barbie Little, David (Nancy) Wood, and Craig Wood, 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her youngest sister Nora Rasmussen. A viewing will be held on March 11 from 6-8 pm at the LDS Chapel, 3600 South 2700 West, West Haven, Utah. Graveside services will be held on Friday, March 18, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Sylvan Cemetery District, 7401 Auburn Blvd., Citrus Heights, California. The family wishes to express gratitude to Karma’s angel caregivers at Legacy House whom she loved.
