Maria Susana Adrellano
December 26, 1934 - February 24, 2020
Maria Susana Chicaíza de Arellano of Provo, Utah, formerly of Guayaquil Ecuador, passed away on February 24, 2020 at the age of 85. Beloved wife of 65 years to Nelson and mother of Mercedes (Marcos) Arellano of Orem, UT, Martha (Kevin) Baxter also of Orem, and Ing. Manuel (Monica) Arellano of Guayaquil, Ecuador. Cherished grandmother of Nataly (Mark) Harris of Maricopa, AZ, Maria Arellano of Salt Lake City, Marcos Jr, Benjamin, Monica, and Marlene Arellano, all of Orem, Derrick (Kathryn) Baxter of Eugene, OR, Steven (Bree) Baxter of Orem, Jeremy Baxter of Saratoga Springs, UT, Gabriela Arellano and Jose Manuel Arellano of Guayaquil, Ecuador. Daughter of the late Carlos and Carmen Chicaiza. Preceded in death by all her five older brothers: Carlos, Hugo, Juan, Fausto, and Manuel Chicaiza. She leaves 9 great-grandchildren that she loved dearly, many loving nieces and nephews, and many loving friends that were a great support in her last days of life. She was born at Latacunga, Ecuador Dec 28, 1934. After getting married to the love of her life, Nelson, they moved to Guayaquil where they raised their family. They immigrated to the United States in 1999 and worked for 16 years - her last job being with the elementary school grandparent program as a support for Spanish immersion teachers where she was loved by many children that she taught in Spanish. Susy or Susan, as she was affectionately known, loved serving others and was a very generous person. She always had a little gift to give to everyone she got to know and loved, especially her great-grandchildren. As a young mother, she stayed home to raise her children who were her priority in life. She graduated with a degree in “home economics” at her hometown tech school and became a professional seamstress. She used this amazing sewing ability as an extra income to her young family and her immediate family as well. We could say everyone that knew her enjoyed the benefits of her talent. Susana enjoyed entertaining in her younger years, she loved her friends and was always surrounded by them all during her life, some of them she considered her family. She was a very faithful convert member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Saints for more than 46 years, never deviating from her faith and beliefs. She was so very grateful to her missionary Elder Larry Stokes for bringing the gospel to her family in 1973. She had the chance to see him again in April 2019; it was an incredible reunion. Susana will be sorely missed by all who knew her and loved her. We want to thank her LDS Spanish Ward and many of her friends that were always there for her. Your service was not unnoticed and we are eternally grateful. Her remains will be taken to Ecuador, her native country, to be buried by her loving husband Nelson’s side. Love is eternal. Mami te vamos a extrañar inmensamente, te amamos para siempre. Tus hijos
