Mark Frederick Allen

August 2, 1945 - November 21, 2016

Mark Frederick Allen, 71, beloved father, grandfather, and friend returned to his Heavenly Father during the morning of November 21, 2016. He passed away peacefully at his home in Layton, Utah, after a valiant struggle with dementia. Mark was born August 2, 1945 in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Charles Clinton Allen and Henrietta Coombs Allen. He grew up in Salt Lake City, graduated from Granite High School in 1963 and obtained a degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Utah. A dedicated lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Mark served in the Central American Mission. He also served in many and various callings throughout the church. His relationship with and faith in the Savior was his greatest strength. Mark retired after working as a talented and bright electrical engineer for 42 years for the US Air Force. He loved participating in amateur radio, practicing morse code, and working with computer code. He enjoyed spending his time gardening, traveling to Canada and spending time with his family. Mark was dependable, hardworking, and spent his life in service to his family and neighbors. He taught us in word and deed that faith truly moves mountains. He had an especially witty sense of humor and was well-versed in the art of practical joking. Married in the Salt Lake LDS Temple to Peggy Ann Ginnow, August 3, 1977, later divorced; they were blessed with four children who were their greatest joy: Angela (J. Nathan) Stewart, Layton, UT; Cheryl (Jacob) Sever, Clearfield, UT; Kari (Jordan) DeJuncker, Syracuse. UT; Ashley Allen, Salt Lake City, UT; and 7 amazing grandchildren, who brought an abundant amount of light to his life. Also, survived by siblings Reid Allen and Sandra Brimhall; and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Preceded in death by his parents. Love and many thanks to First Choice Home Health and Hospice for your gracious service. We are forever grateful for the love, sacrifice and care provided by Nathan and Angela, and all of Mark’s immediate and extended family. Farewell services will be held at the LDS Church located at 2250 E 2200 N, Layton, Utah, on Saturday, November 26, 2016 at 11:00am. A family prayer and viewing will be held at the same location, prior to the service at from 9:30-10:45am. Interment will follow the farewell at the Elysian Burial Gardens,1075 E 4580 S, Millcreek, Utah.
