April 15, 1940 - August 26, 2018
Mary Naomi Boyer Bonney passed away peacefully in her home on Sunday August 26th, surrounded by many who loved her and whom she loved. She was born on April 15, 1940 to Arthur and Mary Boyer in Springville Utah, the youngest of four children. As a child she loved to work with her brother and father on the family farm, and also enjoyed playing school with her sisters from whom she learned to read before starting grade school. She loved learning and discovered that she had a special gift for music. She was an accomplished pianist and teacher, and shared those talents throughout her life. She graduated from Springville High School and then earned her Bachelors degree in music from Brigham Young University. It was also at BYU where she met her husband Frederick James Bonney whom she married on June 9th, 1961 in the Salt Lake temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Naomi and Fred lived for two years in the Philippines as Peace Crop volunteers, lived in Malaysia for another, and also spent time in California and Springville before settling with their family in Midvale UT where they raised their five children. Naomi passed on her love of music to many, and taught all her children to play the piano. But piano was only a small part of the gifts she had and the things she taught, not only to her children, but to many other students and friends. She loved her family, and people in general, and always strived to teach them by her own example. Naomi and Fred shared many marvelous adventures together raising their family, and enjoyed the ups and downs of life as much as they possibly could. In the symphony of life they played together for fifty-seven years, she was truly the concert master. Naomi is survived by her husband Fred; her sister RuthAnn (Ralph) Randal, her brother Larsen (Maureen) Boyer; her children and their spouses Philip (Georgia) Bonney, Patricia (Chris) Smith, Jennifer (Jeff) Slack, David (Emily) Bonney, Linda (Kevin) Stephens; thirty-eight grandchildren, and six great grandchildren. The family would like to thank all those who provided care for Naomi, especially Frieda Reyes, and Tina and Heather with Adagio hospice, and many others who provided care and support. A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 pm on Friday August 31, with funeral services Saturday September 1st starting at 11 am (viewing prior for one hour starting at 9:30 am). Both the viewing and funeral will be held in the Willow Creek 1st Ward located at 2115 Sublett Place, Sandy UT. Interment to follow at Mountain View Memorial Cemetery, 3115 East Bengal Blvd (7800 South), Cottonwood Heights, Utah.
