Michael Brooks Berrett

Brooks Berrett, 77, died unexpectedly November 9, 2021 at the University of Utah Medical Center in Salt Lake City, UT. He was born March 10, 1944 in Idaho Falls, Idaho, son of Don Aaron and Anna Margaret Maher Berrett. Brooks grew up in Roberts, Idaho on the family farm where he learned the value of hard work and family values. He was an avid BYU and Dodger fan. He played on the Idaho Falls Tigers Baseball team and graduated from Idaho Falls High School, class of 1962. He studied at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science. His education was interrupted by serving a 2 ½ year mission in Holland for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and he served honorably for 21 months in the United States Marine Corps. His life was filled with giving service as small as collecting items for the needy to traveling to Africa with Choice Humanitarian to build schools. His work took him all over the United States. Eventually, he settled in Salt lake City, Utah. He finally married, who he called, “the love of my life”, Teresa Capener on March 20, 2020. He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was a dedicated ordinance worker at the Salt Lake and Jordan River Temples for many years. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Illona Stevenson and Karla Bee Sedillo and brothers-in-law Frank Sedillo and Michael Egerer. In addition to his wife, Teresa Capener, he is survived by brothers; Joel (Karela) of Roosevelt, UT, Clifford of Las Vegas, NV, and Kirk (Tracy) of Wanship, UT and sisters; Dee Maynard (Monte) of Riverton, UT, Trudy (Lewis) Ross and Gene’ Berrett, both of Salt Lake City, UT, Melanie Egerer and Raquel Berrett of Sterling, VA, Lark (Ryan) Hobley of Enoch, UT, Lorelie (Carson) Judd of Rollins, MT and many cherished nieces and nephews; Kreigh Sedillo, Kerrie Allen, Jana Berrett, Don Berrett, Linda Barbakos, Eric Berrett, Michael Ross, Matthew Ross, Megan Curtis, Aaron Allen, Michelle Hatch, Logan Hobley, Clinton Hobley, Jordan Hobley, Erin (Tootsie) Judd, Brooke Knudtson, Breanne Wagner, Bridger Berrett, Cierra Judd, and India Judd. A service in remembrance will be held on Saturday, 20 November 2021, in the Eastridge Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Location: 5235 South Wesley Road, Salt Lake City, UT 84117. Visitation 11:00am-11:45am. Services 12:00pm.
