Michelle Sirstins Latta

May 30, 1955 - December 24, 2017

Michelle Sirstins Latta 1955 – 2017, 62 was born May 30, 1955, to Walter Paul Sirstins and Raeline Higham - Hilton Sirstins at the Hill Airforce Base in Utah. Michelle was the first born of nine children. She married her husband, David Ross Latta in the Salt Lake Temple on June 20, 2014. Preceding her in death were her father, Walter, and brother, Andrew Blake Sirstins. She is survived by mother, Raeline, husband, David, step-children Christopher (Elizabeth) Latta, and Bethany (Spencer) Buchi, along with 5 step-grandchildren, Millie, Hannah, Aaron, Dale & Thomas Latta. Her brothers and sisters, Danine (Bruce) Wagner, Bryan (Janet) Sirstins, Brad (Laura) Sirstins, Brent Sirstins, Lynnette Sirstins, Eric (Sharolyn) Sirstins, and Nicolette Welch; along with an army of nieces and nephews, and life-long friends whom she considered family, Marcie Miller and Roland Schiffler. Michelle had a profound love for music and theatre. In her young life, she focused her talents and mastered the violin. It wasn’t until the age of 22 that she had fallen in love with singing. Michelle was a member of the Mormon Youth Choir. She was also a member of the Chamber Choir and graduated from Utah State University with a bachelor’s degree in Music. After graduating, Michelle became a teacher, spreading her love of music to hundreds of students, teaching both band and choir. Throughout the many facets of her musical career, she performed in over 150 musicals and eventually progressed to be the musical director for the Musical Moose Theatre in Yellowstone National Park. Along with her love for music, Michelle had an overabundance of hobbies. She belonged to the Utah Miniature Society as well as a chapter of the Red Hat Society. Michelle’s favorite activity was her weekly “Grandma Day” where she would spend the day with her beautiful grandchildren, making crafts, baking, and creating memories. Michelle was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she served in many callings. She was also a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers. Michelle passed away December 24th, 2017 in Boise, Idaho. Michelle was so full of love and happiness. Her infectious laugh and contagious smile could brighten anyone’s day. She was loved by all who surrounded her and will be greatly missed. The viewing will be held Saturday, December 30, 2017, at her childhood ward located at 4635 S. Lanark Road, Holladay, UT 84124 from 9:30 AM – 10:45 AM. Funeral Services will begin at 11:00 AM, Interment to follow at the Salt Lake City Cemetery.
