December 21, 1958 - February 20, 2020
Musetta Neumann Mortimer 1958-2020 Fun-loving, dedicated, hard working, empathetic, generous, loyal and kind, Musetta Neumann Mortimer left this earth on February 20, 2020 after a heroic battle with cancer. She is our angel wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She was born on December 21, 1958 to Gunter and Moselle Neumann, and lived in Farmington Utah with her 5 other siblings. She worked with the family picking cherries, raspberries (she was the family champion raspberry picker), and vegetables; plucking chickens, snapping beans, weeding, hoeing, and bottling thousands of jars of fruits, vegetables, and jams. She also worked countless hours in the family bakery. Her father gave her the nickname of ‘Rainbow’ because of her ability to laugh and cry at the same time. She learned to play the violin and was involved in orchestras throughout her life. She did well in school and graduated from Utah State University with a degree in Business. In 1980, she met the love of her life, Hal Mortimer, and married him on August 11, 1981 in the Salt Lake City Temple. She worked at the BYU Bookstore and the Utah State Hospital to support her husband in college until his graduation in August 1986. Two of their children, Benjamin and Sarah, were born during this time. After college graduation, the family moved to Bremerton, Washington, living there for 10 years, and adding their next 2 children, Lance and Matthew, to the family. A job change took them next to Antioch, California, where they lived for 19 years, welcoming their last 2 children, Camilla and Ty to their family. A final move to Layton, Utah brought Musetta back to her roots. Musetta loved being a mother and grandmother, hanging out with family, bargain shopping, and collecting unique items (fridge magnets, Madame Alexander dolls, Fischer Price toys, antique luggage, typewriters, and furniture). She had the magical quality of loving people and making them feel important and valued. Her energy for life and her many interests (ie. celebrating the year that her whole family’s ages were prime numbers; pro golf, geology, stars, musicals, sarcasm, hiking, and camping) enriched and entertained the lives of her family and friends. Musetta demonstrated faith in her Heavenly Father throughout her life, and served in many church callings in her LDS wards including (music, nursery, Relief Society, primary, young women’s, scouts, and girls camp) She is survived by her loving husband (Hal), children(Benjamin, Sarah and Dallin, Lance and Linda, Matthew, Camilla, and Ty), grandchildren (Emilyn, Adelaide, Helam, Auriella, Calvin, and Lexie) and her siblings Greg (Valerie), Jeff, Randy (Krystal), Reid (Teresa), and Trudy (Tim). Services will be held on February 29, with a viewing from 9-10:30, and service at 11:00 at the LDS chapel located at 400 South 2200 West in Layton, Utah. Interment will be in the Farmington City Cemetery next to her beloved parents. The family asks that donations be made in lieu of flowers to The Melanoma Clinic of the Huntsman Cancer Institute at huntsmancancer.org/giving.
