Nancy Lu Petersen

October 3, 1944 - May 21, 2022

Nancy Lu (Richardson) Petersen peacefully passed away on 21 May 2022. Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, daughter, aunt, and friend. She is survived by her children – Spencer (Julie) Petersen, Linda Petersen, and Amanda Petersen, her 10 grandchildren, and her siblings – Verla (Ray) Davidson, Hope (Steven) Barrows, Dee Richardson, JohnEl (Lenny) Richardson, Sam (Clara) Richardson, Susan Brady, and Randy (Jody/Patricia) Richardson. Nancy was preceded in death by her husband – Evart Niel Petersen, her daughter – Stephanie Petersen, her parents – Justin Richardson and Hortense Earl Richardson, and her siblings – Bonnie (Blair) Stevens and Glen (Melanie/Bambie) Richardson. Nancy graduated from Granite High School and served as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Western States Mission, working in the Denver, CO and Albuquerque, NM areas. She worked for over 20 years for the Church as a microfilmer and inspector of historical documents. Nancy is remembered for her love, generosity, and enthusiasm to spread joy and love. She excelled at finding the good in her fellow children of God. Nancy volunteered at the Humanitarian Center for the restored Church of Jesus Christ, making and teaching others how to make quilts for charity. Nancy was fiercely creative and loved to share her talents. She handmade a series of dolls, each of which based on one of the planets in the solar system. Nancy formulated a back story for each of these characters from which she wrote a children’s book called Terra Magic. Nancy loved the restored Gospel of Jesus Christ. Her magnum opus was to assemble a complete collection of images, one for every single verse in the Book of Mormon, filling more than 45 binders. This fine work occupied over 20 years of effort. Nancy is remembered for her love for others, especially her children. She had a contagious smile and laugh. She lit up a room upon entering and will be sorely missed. A viewing will be held in the Winder 13th Ward chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (4350 S. 1100 E. in Salt Lake City) at 12:00 pm. The funeral will follow at the same location at 1:00 pm.
