Neil Franklin Charter

February 10, 1943 - January 19, 2018

Neil Franklin Charter, age 74, passed away, at home, in Layton, Utah on January 19, 2018, a few weeks shy of his 75th birthday. Born February 10, 1943, in St. Paul, Minnesota to Earl Franklin Charter and Anne Josephine Rubash. Married Joan Marie Wilson, on March 21, 1964 in Benton City Washington and again on August 9, 1995 in Kamas, Utah. Together they had seven children; Michael Franklin of Trego, Wisconsin; David Earl of Buffalo, Minnesota; Heath Andrew (Emily) of Fredricksburg, Virginia; Heather Anne Blank of Layton, Utah; Matthew Neil (Martina) of Layton, Utah; Elias Wilson of Layton, Utah and Seth Russell of Midvale, Utah. Neil served in the Army and then started a 32-year career with the telephone company prior to his retirement in February of 2002, at the age of 59. He lived most of his life in the frigid winters and humid summers of Minnesota, not to mention the millions of mos- quitos, but moved to Utah in 1995 where he lived until his death. Neil loved to fish and hunt. He was also an avid reader and would sit by hours, at his computer playing solitaire and or working a cross word puzzle at the table. He is survived by his wife, Joan and their seven children, 17 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren, with two more on the way. Survived also by his sister, Nancy Tessmer and brother, Charles Ehlers both of Minnesota, where he was raised. He is preceded, in death, by his parents, Anne and Earl Charter, his stepdad, Ray Olds and his sisters; Barbara Salters, Sharon Vierling and Linda Charter plus his brother, Terry. Also nieces; Cheryl and Jeanette Vierling. Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 26, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at the LDS Church located at 590 W 2000 N (Antelope Dr.) in Layton, Utah. A viewing will be held prior to the service from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at the Utah Veterans Cemetery and Memorial Park. Neil will be remembered for his love of hunting and fishing and for his impeccable work ethic of providing for his family of nine. We love you and will miss you.
