Neil Gene Dodson

January 24, 1929 - March 26, 2021

Neil Gene Dodson 1929 – 2021 After nearly three long years without his sweetheart, our father, Neil G. Dodson is reunited with his eternal companion and best friend, Shirley Dodson (deceased). After a long and full life, dad left his weary mortal body to join mom on March 26, 2021. Born in Pleasant Grove, UT to Walter and Leone Dodson, Dad spent his first 13 years as an only child raised under the loving care of his mother, aunts and uncles in Utah, and later in California. After graduating with honors from Brigham Young University, dad made his career in the insurance industry. He loved to teach and was a trainer of many young insurance professionals. His gift for teaching further blessed the lives of others as a Sunday school teacher and bishop. Dad loved the restored gospel of Jesus Christ and regularly shared the gospel with others. Some of his happiest memories were those from serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the Great Lakes Mission. Prior to college, Dad was drafted into the Army during the Korean War where he served honorably. Once discharged, dad began his studies at Brigham Young University. Later, Dad met the love of his life, Shirley Turner at church in Santa Ana, California. They were sealed for time and all eternity in the Los Angeles temple and spent 61 devoted and beautiful years together, raising 5 children: Mark (Shirley), Denise (Scott) Kunkel, Lyle (Samantha), Clark (Elissa) and Blake (Kimberly). Dad left a beautiful legacy of children that walk in faith, love God, their families and their fellow man. Dad is survived by his sister (Lurlene Carol), 5 children, 15 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Dad loved fixing up cars and taught his 4 sons well. We will fondly remember road trips delayed when dad stopped the car to take the perfect photo of flower, or entertained us with games like I-spy and taking turns making up the next chapter in an imaginary story. Dad was an avid reader and loved life-long learning. He once memorized the entire Webster’s Dictionary. Special thanks are offered for the loving hospice care provided by Susan, Marina, and many others from Community Nursing Services. We are forever grateful for their dedicated service. Viewing will be held on Thursday, April 1, 2021 from 6-8pm at the LDS 20th Ward (2nd Avenue and G Street in Salt Lake City, UT). A graveside dedication will be at the Heber City Cemetery at 12:00 Noon, Friday, April 2, 2021.
