Neilo Q Taylor

June 22, 1933 - December 3, 2016

Neilo Q Taylor 1933-2016 Neilo Q Taylor passed away peacefully on December 3, 2016, after spending his last 5 years recovering from the effects of cancer. He was 83 years of age and residing at the Salt Lake Veteran’s Home. Neilo was born in Lyman, Wayne County, Utah on June 22, 1933, and the oldest of six children. His parents Blanch Jackson and Melvin Harvey Taylor. He married Berta Deanne Lund on November 26, 1955, in Mayfield, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the LDS Salt Lake Temple on January 28, 1984. Neilo grew up on a farm with lots of chores, an outhouse and learned the value of hard work. He attended a primary school in Mayfield, Utah and later graduated from Manti High School. In 1952, Neilo went into the army at Fort Ord (CA) for Induction. He then went to Camp Roberts (CA) for Basic Training. He later was sent to Fort Lewis (WA) and was in the 106th Tank Battalion. He received an Honorable Discharge and moved back to Utah. He worked at Hill Air Force Base for 33 years. He started as a machinist and then moved into electronics. At the age of 28, Neilo learned to fly and received his pilot’s license. He joined the Civil Air Patrol and worked with them for over 50 years. During this time he was able to participate in many searches. Members of The Civil Air Patrol have indicated that Neilo was involved with the most finds of missing individuals and aircraft. His natural talent enabled him to calculate weather, last transmissions, pilot experience, plane capabilities and terrain to locate the target. He also assisted in Red Cross Blood Runs, and transporting search animals to ground locations for assisting in other searches. Neilo loved the wonders of life and always tried to learn more or teach others what he knew. He loved Berta, camping, hunting, flying, good food, radios, friends, flying, tinkering, sightseeing, flying, honey bees, family reunions, harmonics, dancing and did we mention flying. Amongst his many friends we would like to include Sam, Feller, Sis and Uncle Mike. Neilo is preceded in death by his parents, Brother Lynn, Sister Judy Barney Graham, and the love of his life his wife Berta Lund Taylor. Neilo is survived by his sisters Verla (Burke Smith), Shanna (Leslie James), Ardella (Keith Peterson), children Audry (Keith Campbell), Kelly Neilo Q Taylor, Vance Lane Taylor (Patricia), Sparky Taylor (Donna), Lara (Allen Campbell), Cindy Snow (Jim Edwards), 17 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. Neilo’s family would like to express their gratitude to the true friendship, compassion, tender care and love shown to Neilo from friends and the staff of the William E. Christofferson Veterans Home, the LDS Branch at the Veterans Home, the Woods Cross LDS 10th Ward, and to the Pilots of the Civil Air Patrol. All services will be held at the LDS 10th Ward Chapel, 1335 West 1500 South, Woods Cross, Utah. A viewing will be held Thursday December 8th from 6:00 – 8:00 pm and on Friday December 9th from 10:45 to 11:45 am. Funeral services will follow at 12:00 Noon with full military honors. The Civil Air Patrol will also provide honorary services at the ceremony. Interment will be at the Thompsonville Cemetery, in Marysvale, Utah, on December 10, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. The American Legion will be providing an honorary service at this location. In lieu of flowers the family suggests a donation to Primary Children’s Medical Center or any other charitable organization in the name of Nelio Q. Taylor
