Ortho Rollin Fairbanks

April 25, 1925 - June 2, 2015

Ortho, our loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on June 2, 2015. He was born April 25, 1925, in Salt Lake City, Utah, the oldest son of Ortho Lane and Laura Violate Smith Fairbanks. He graduated from South High School, University of Utah and Brigham Young University. He was a veteran of World War II. He married Myrna Jesperson, February 18, 1949 in the Salt Lake Temple, five days before he left for a mission in New Zealand. He cherished time with his family. He is survived by his children: Moana (Dwayne) Liddell, Nancy (Vincent) Farr, Jared Fairbanks, Malia (Brent) Allsop. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren along with his sister, Virginia (Harold) Peterson, brothers, Vaughn Fairbanks, and Grant (Lucy) Fairbanks. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, son, Hyrum and brother, Richard (Fonda) Fairbanks. Ortho is a renowned artist and sculptor, creating works of art all over the world. He had a great love of all the beauties in life and shared this with his family and others. He was active member and held many positions in the LDS Church, community and Sons of Utah Pioneers. He taught art at the Church College of Hawaii (now BYU-Hawaii), Northland Pioneer College in Arizona and continued teaching and producing sculpture till the end of his life. Funeral services will be held 11:00 am, Monday, June 8, 2015 at the Canyon Rim Stake Center, 3051 South 2900 East, Salt Lake City, Utah where a viewing will be held Sunday, June 7, 2015 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm and prior to services Monday from 9:45 to 10:45 am. Interment at the Salt Lake City Cemetery.
