Patricia Wrae McCarthy
January 16, 1947 - May 26, 2021
Patricia Wrae McCarthy of Salt Lake City passed away on Wednesday, May 26, 2021. Wrae was born on January 16, 1947 to Dee and Pat Roderick. She was oldest of 4 children and loved her brothers literally from the day they were born until the moment she passed away. She could not have been more proud of the husbands, fathers and grandfathers they have become and loved their visits, stories of their children and fun memories of childhood. Laughter was always in great abundance among the Roderick children. She was a state champion debater at Highland High School and heavily involved in the performing arts programs of the school. After high school, she graduated from Robert Steurs School of Cosmetology and attended Salt Lake Technical College and Salt Lake Community College. As a single parent, what she really had was a Master’s Degree in hustle. If there was overtime, she worked it, if there was an extra shift, or a side gig, she took it. If the car didn’t start, she rode the bus. She did her best to create opportunities for her children and loved them both very much. She was especially proud of her daughter for graduating from nursing school and of her son for somehow turning a childhood of principal office visits into a career. She was a lifelong learner who loved history, camping, swimming, crochet, movies, reading and music, specifically the music of Barbra Streisand, the John Steinbeck novel East of Eden and especially performing in live theater. Her love of performing began at age 4 and continued through roles in several local stage productions including Gypsy, Carnival (Theatre 138), Nunsense (Park City Egyptian Theatre), All My Sons. (SLCC Black Box Theatre), South Pacific (Sundance Summer Theatre), Bands of Iron Rings of Gold, Bye, Bye, Birdie, and Fiddler on the Roof (Grand Theatre). She may be gone from this world, but only to audition for a better show on a bigger stage. She is survived by her children Jennifer Tucker (Justin) and Sean McCarthy, her brothers Timm (Laurie) Roderick and Scott (Sherri) Roderick and by her many grandchildren, great grandchildren nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved very much. She was preceded in death by her brother RanDee and parents Dee and Patricia Roderick. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, June 5th at the Mountain View 3rd Ward,1889 S 1700 East, Salt Lake City, Utah. In lieu of flowers, please visit Crown Burgers on Highland Drive with your family or friends, and be sure to mix a little mustard with your ketchup before you dip your fries.
