Paul Randy Roberts
October 10, 1943 - March 23, 2021
Paul Randy Roberts, 77, passed away Tuesday, March 23, 2021 in Salt Lake City. Randy was born October 10, 1943 and grew up in Salt Lake. When he was young, Randy spent many summers in Centerville with his grandparents, cousins, great aunts and uncles. He worked summers at Bryce Canyon during his high school years. He graduated from Highland High School in 1961. Randy joined the Navy right after high school graduation, at the age of 18. While he was in the Navy he was responsible for communication between the ship and command center. He was on a ship when President Kennedy was shot. Randy was the one responsible for notifying the commanding officer on the ship about the president. After serving in the Navy, Randy attended the University of Utah and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Political Science in 1970. He then began his 35 year career in hotel and restaurant management. Randy worked all around the US as a hotel and restaurant manager. In the late 1970’s he worked in Elko, Nevada and would often take his family fishing in Lamoille Canyon. During the height of his career he spent 15 years working in Idaho Falls at the Westbank Hotel. He was well liked by the hotel staff and guests. Randy returned to Salt Lake after retiring. He moved into an apartment complex, Hamilton Place, where he had many friends and people that cared about him. After retiring he also formed a strong bond with his former mother-in-law Lily, also known as Noni. He provided great compassion and friendship to her in her final years. Randy had a love of his pets. He had a favorite cat named Ralph. I’m sure that Ralph along with the dogs Mickey, Black Dog and Bill were there to greet him when he passed. Randy is survived by his former wife Pamela Roberts and their sons Paul (Misty), Seth (Lindsi), Michael (Sarah), and daughter Candice (Drew); grandchildren Taylor, Henry, Hannah, Max, Luke and Lily; and sisters Kaaryn and Krista. He is preceded in death by his parents Harold Bernard and Valate Roberts. Randy requested that there not be a funeral. Family and friends will instead have a celebration of life later this spring. The family would like to thank the residents and staff at Hamilton Place for their friendship to Randy during the final years of his life. We also would like to thank the staff of Mount Olympus Rehabilitation for the care they showed Randy during his final months. Finally, thanks to Lighten Home Health and Hospice and Randy’s hospice nurse, Chris. Bless you Randy. We hope you have found peace and joy.
